Job Details
Allegheny College, a small selective national liberal arts college, invites applications for the position of Director of Student Finance. The position is a full-time exempt position reporting to the Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer. The Office of Financial Services administers student account billing and collection, general accounting, and treasury operations.
The Director oversees the overall operations of student financial accounts including; student receivables, internal and external receivables, meal plan management, and cashiering functions of the College. He/she provides direction and leadership in financial management, fiscal policies review and changes as well as ensures compliance with college, state, and federal regulations and standard accounting procedures. Disbursement and Non-Student Receivables; Supervise purchasing operations. Ensure cross departmental coordination and maintenance of adequate records involving internal and external receivables. Supervise cash receipts and deposit processing. Oversee the management of delinquent collections including but not limited to Perkins loans. Responsible for mentoring Student Financial Accounts staff and overseeing communications with constituents.
The Director is responsible for the technology systems infrastructures and will analyze existing systems for improvement, recommend new system processes, and keep detailed reports of all structural and process changes. He/she solves division and organizational information problems and requirements. He/she must follow best practices and align with Division and College goals while creating better procedures, protocols, controls, and solutions to increase performance and revenue. Supervise the implementation and updating of department/division website(s), technical support, software applications and products, reporting and analysis as they pertain to Financial Services
The Director is responsible to motivate, mentor and provide support, technical training, and business training to departmental staff. He/she serves as a collaborative liaison to cross-functional areas within the organization. He/she coordinates and participates in projects, tests new systems and enhancements, and serves on committees to support College initiatives.
Required qualifications include: A bachelor degree in accounting, information technology, and/or business, or closely related field; a Master’s degree is preferred. A minimum of 2-5 years of experience managing staff, writing goals and preparing performance reviews. Two years previous experience in accounting, business, or business systems analysis; proficient computer skills. Experience and/or knowledge of higher education programs and issues are essential. Demonstrated knowledge of electronic systems and applications is required. Demonstrated organizational, strong interpersonal, and excellent written and oral communication skills required. Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a team member is required.

History - 200 Years
Founded in 1815, Allegheny College ranks among the oldest 1% of colleges and universities and is the 32nd oldest college in the United States. Perhaps as many as 100 colleges were established and failed before the Civil War. Allegheny is one of the hardy survivors that testify daily to the determination and vision of those early pioneers of higher education in America.
Allegheny is situated in Meadville, Pa., which was established in 1788 in the French Creek Valley, astride the route traversed by George Washington on his journey to Fort LeBoeuf a generation earlier. In 1815, Meadville was still a raw frontier town of about 400 settlers, of whom an unusually large number had come from Massachusetts and Connecticut. They dreamed of a college that might bring the educational opportunities of New England to the frontier. The Rev. Timothy Alden was recruited to take on the task, and two months after his arrival in April 1815, Allegheny was established-with Alden as its first president.
Within half a dozen years, Alden succeeded in attracting sufficient funds to begin building a campus, having traveled throughout the eastern states seeking support for a planned library and classroom building. The need of a building to house a library led to the construction, in the 1820s, of Bentley Hall, today a leading example of early American architecture. Designed by Alden, this handsome structure still crowns the hill on which the campus is located. It is named in honor of Dr. William Bentley, who donated his outstanding private library to the College.
Each year, as part of the Commencement ceremony, seniors march through the doors of historic Bentley Hall toward the adventures that await them. In 2015, Allegheny will celebrate its 200-year history and the extraordinary futures of the graduating Bicentennial Class of 2015.
