Position Summary

This position requires a highly responsible professional who is capable of managing highly manicured putting greens, tees, rough and surrounding areas. There are 50 acres of property within this person’s supervisory responsibilities. This includes building maintenance, environmental/safety regulation and compliance, organization of events etc. This individual also has budgetary responsibilities such as maintaining the annual budget for building use and facilities maintenance. Above all this position is responsible for the general supervision and maintenance of the course as well as the maintenance of the crew which consists of approximately 2 full-time and 4-8 part time student employees.

Turfgrass Management; Ability to delegate to others and ensure tasks are completed in timely fashion; Up to date with processes regarding golf course maintenance. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Experience in bentgrass greens management; crew supervision; aerification; operational knowledge of all golf course equipment and chemical application.

Daily Scheduling of Work: Responsible for scheduling and supervision for the work of 2 full-time and 4-8 student employees. Scheduling must be completed at least 15 minutes prior to start of the shift. Additional assignments should be decided and posted prior to the completion of an employee’s first task. An accurate Excel or similar form should be kept on a daily basis that details the tasks that were completed and the amount of time it took. Must be able to schedule in a fashion that maximizes efficiency.

Employee Time Management: Must be able to maintain an accurate tracking system. Adjustments should be made in a timely fashion. Amounts that exceed or don’t meet must be justified in writing as to why. Weekend work schedules should be accurately scheduled and enforced. Overtime hours should not be allowed except during special occasions and should be justified in writing.

Supervise Field Irrigation Maintenance: Work directly with the Irrigation Technician in order to maintain a fully operational irrigation system. Must be able to diagnose irrigation problems in order to be able to select an appropriate course of action. There are over 250 irrigation heads, multiple control boxes and underground valves. This includes, but is not limited to, electrical problems, breaks, leaks, head problems, nozzle selection and timing issues. This also includes the maintenance and repair of the river pump.

Management of the Timekeeping System: Timecards for all employees should be monitored and approved in a timely manner when required. You should also ensure that employees are approving their own timecards in a timely manner. Ensure employees are taking proper breaks and maintaining a consistent card.

Total Property Management: Must be able to manage the entire property during specified weekends and anytime the Assistant Superintendent and Golf Course Superintendent are not on property.

Golf Team Practice Facility Management to Include the Boyd Golf Center: Responsible for overseeing the maintenance of the golf team practice facility. This area is to be maintained in tournament ready condition at all times. Greens are to be smooth and consistent with a ball roll of no less than 10’ and preferably 12’ or more on the stimpmeter. Task being performed around the Boyd Center should be completed prior to the arrival of anyone so as not to disturb team activities. Landscaping is to be maintained at the highest level at all times.

Care of Maintenance Facilities: Must be able to maintain all maintenance facilities in the area of the clubhouse, driving range, golf team facility and front entrance by ensuring all buildings are clear and free of debris. Any repairs that are needed should be reported to the Superintendent upon discovery in a timely manner. A visual check, of all facilities, should be made at least once a week. Things that should be checked are cleanliness, organization, safety gear, spill containment units and for any potential EPD/EPD violations.

Care of Chemical Buildings: Must be able to manage an organized and clean chemical building. This includes making sure containers are properly labeled, soluble products are above liquid products, floors are clear of any spills, spill containment unit is accessible, safety gear is available, and products are grouped according to their classifications. A check sheet is completed monthly to ensure the aforementioned items are checked thoroughly. Must maintain rapport with UGA Environmental Safety Division Representative and schedule meetings biannually to review and comply with any recommendation that is made.

Integrated Pest Management: Responsible for accurately scouting for pests on all 150 acres of the property with special attention being paid to the greens, tees, fairways and golf team facility. Appropriate action should be taken to control such pests. Environmental, budgetary, economical feasibility, customer impact and federal and local regulations should be among some of the considerations taken when selecting a course of action. Work directly with the Spray Technician to apply the selected course of action and supervise that individual to ensure proper safety techniques, proper application rates and federal and local regulations are being followed.

EB Smith Clubhouse Grounds Management: Responsibility includes ensuring the clubhouse grounds are clean and free of debris daily. Landscaping should be properly maintained and have an appealing appearance. The selection, ordering and installation of annual plant material should be completed in a timely manner. Visual inspection of the outdoor portion of the building should be noted and reported to the Superintendent or General Manager. Care should be taken to ensure walkways and other areas are safe for pedestrian traffic. You must coordinate with Superintendent on tournament schedules so as to prep for an event and try to schedule tasks accordingly.

Management of Front Entrance, Golf Course Bathrooms, Rain Shelters, Golf Maintenance Office and Shop Bathroom: These areas are to be checked for cleanliness and functionality. A checklist for the cleaning contractor should be kept and any variation or under standard conditions should be reported to the contractor/manager. All non-emergency repairs should be made in a timely fashion as long as budgetary limits allow. For non-emergency major repairs, a proposal should be created and submitted that includes 3 competitive quotes to the Superintendent.

Underground Storage Tank (Fuel) Management: Must be able to obtain and maintain a Class A, B and C operators certification through the state of Georgia. Must be able to accurately inspect, maintain and keep records as required by the state, be able to train all employees on class C certification and accurately record the successful completion of such training. Must ensure signage, spill containment and safety equipment are present and operational at all times.

Coordinate and schedule equipment needs and changes with maintenance mechanic: Proper communication should be maintained with the mechanic on scheduling of maintenance activities. Desired changes in equipment set-up should be reported to the mechanic in a timely manner and sufficient time should be allowed for such changes. Visual assessment of equipment performance should be noted in the field and reported to the mechanic whether good or bad.

Golf Course Improvement Projects: At least one course improvement project per month should be researched and analyzed. A written report should be made to show the cost, time of completion and justification for such project. A digital copy of every project proposal should be kept. Projects should be selected on the basis of level of need.

Irrigation Software and Irrigation Pump Maintenance: Must be proficient with RainBird Nimbus II software that operates all of the irrigation including the pump station. Must be able to schedule, adjust and troubleshoot in order to provide water as needed in the most efficient manner. Must follow all local water restrictions and use the UGA Golf Course Best Management Practices Guidelines when watering. A monthly log of total usage is to be kept on hand. Must be able to meet with and supervise the biannual preventive maintenance of the two pump stations. Pump stations should be kept clean and free of debris.
