Research Support Specialist/Machine Shop Manager
DescriptionThis position provides support for the research and education activities in the Fisher College of Science and Mathematics through instrument support and machine shop responsibilities. Research support includes routine maintenance, schedule management, operation, training, and development of new analytical techniques on research and educational scientific instrumentation. The position also involves the maintenance, operation, and training of instrumentation in the college machine shop. Responsibilities also include procurement of materials and tools and maintaining an accurate inventory of all machine shop items.
QualificationsBachelor's degree and significant experience with scientific research instrumentation and experience with machine shop operations. Candidates should have experience with woodworking and metal fabrication using lathe, milling machine, drill press and band saw. Successful candidates should have excellent management skills, ability to multitask and handle scheduling effectively, work independently or in groups. Candidates should be motivated, patient, and able to train and supervise users which could include undergraduate students, graduate students, and faculty.
Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience.
