Normal Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Job Summary: The Coordinator, Fitness Services assists with management and execution of group exercise, personal training, fitness consultations and counselings, and incentive programs at the Student Recreation Center, Student Activity Center at Presidential Village, and the Aquatic Center.

Additional Department Summary: The Coordinator, Fitness Services provides professional management and supervision for the daily operations of the Group Exercise program and noncredit offerings through University Recreation. Duties may include, but are not limited to, hiring/training new employees on emergency action plans, CPR/AED, policies and procedures, annual employee evaluations, maintenance and upkeep of eight studios between three separate facilities, and managing two program assistants. This position complements the University mission by providing diverse educational and recreational opportunities to students, faculty, staff, alumni, affiliates, community and youth. This position expands social programming that reinforces positive activity and relationships, meanwhile, encouraging the inclusion of the University community in University Recreation offerings. The Coordinator, Fitness Services will assist the Manager in developing programs to increase certifications and continuing education among patrons and employees of University Recreation and will also host nationally accredited fitness certifications. Through collaboration and partnerships with other divisional and campus units, the incumbent will assist in providing opportunities that have a positive impact on the student's physical, social and emotional wellbeing. Responsible for completing required training that is related to laws and regulations, that creates a more hospitable and respectful workplace; and a safer work environment. Responsible for holding staff accountable for completion of required training.

Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in exercise science, exercise physiology, fitness management, physical education, recreation, or health education and three (3) years of experience in a university or corporate health/fitness setting; OR Master’s degree in exercise science, exercise physiology, fitness management, physical education, recreation, or health education and one (1) year of experience in a university or corporate health/fitness setting. Must have valid, nationally recognized group exercise certification, from a National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) accredited certifying organization or be able to obtain certifications within three (3) months of hire date. CPR/First Aid certification or the ability to obtain within six (6) weeks of hire date. Must have valid U.S. driver's license. Must be at least 21 years of age at the time of hire and have an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report as determined by the insurance carrier.

Skills and Knowledge: Demonstrated commitment to expand multicultural knowledge, awareness, and skills as evidenced through: demonstrating self-awareness; understanding and valuing others; demonstrating knowledge of social inequalities; interacting effectively with a diversity of people; fostering equity and inclusion.

Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree in Health Promotion, Exercise Physiology or other health-related fields. Work experience in university or corporate health/fitness setting. Significant experience with public speaking to diverse audiences. Prefer certification by American College of Sports Medicine, American Council on Exercise, Aerobic and Fitness Association of America, National Strength and Conditioning Association, Pilates Reformer training or certification (Balanced Body, Stott, Peak) and/or National Intramural and Recreational Sports Association.
