Reporting to the Director of Athletics and the Associate Vice President for Development, the Senior Associate Athletic Director for Advancement is the lead fundraiser for Tribe Athletics, responsible for the leadership & strategy for private philanthropy for Tribe Athletics. This includes managing a portfolio, soliciting leadership and major gifts from friends, alumni, corporations and foundations, and parents, with a keen focus on pipeline development and moves management, and supervision of staff to ensure driving maximization of fundraising results.

The Senior Associate Athletic Director for Advancement will also have oversight of the Tribe Club Board and all related initiatives, providing recommendations to the Director of Athletics on matters related to advancement activities and donor strategies. They are responsible for developing and implementing a strategy for both an annual and long-term fundraising plan that will support and advance Tribe Athletics as well as driving innovative communications, engagement and creative initiatives for all constituents. The Senior Associate Athletic Director for Advancement works in collaborative partnership with colleagues in University Advancement to ensure coordination of prospect identification, assignment, cultivation, and solicitation, as well as gift acknowledgment and stewardship.

The Senior Associate Athletic Director of Advancement is also a member of the Director of Athletics’ Senior Leadership Team. This group is comprised of the individuals responsible for all Athletic department strategic initiatives and planning, including but not limited to: student-athlete well-being and performance excellence, student programming, facilities, operations, department policies & procedures, fiscal management, and external relations. This group advises the Director of Athletics on all aspects of the department. Individuals in this group serve as program administrator for one or more Varsity teams, a responsibility that includes, but is not limited to: oversight of overall programs, supervision and evaluation of head coaches, monitoring budget and NCAA compliance, and working with the head coach to create and manage an environment conducive to both academic and competitive excellence.
The Senior Associate Athletic Director for Advancement is responsible for fostering a commitment to diversity and inclusiveness throughout all levels of the organization, including but not limited to, staffing and programming. They are responsible for the recruitment, supervision, training, development and coordination of all staff in their area as well as fostering an environment of compliance with NCAA rules and regulations for all staff, coaches, student-athlete, athletics, and University community.

This position is administrative in nature and carries a very high level of responsibility for overall management of the Intercollegiate Athletics program. The Senior Associate Athletic Director for Advancement will have primary accountability for decision-making and responsibility related to this area.

Required Qualifications

EDUCATION:

Bachelor’s degree with extensive experience, in higher education (or a comparably complex organization), sports management, communications, marketing, or a related field.

  • Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of fundraising principles with the demonstrated ability to identify, qualify, solicit and secure significant private gifts.
  • Ability to present a strategic vision, with the ability to thrive in a metrics driven environment that enhances individual and collective productivity.
  • Demonstrated ability to initiate, analyze, monitor, evaluate and advance strategic plans and programs that support the Athletic Department mission and contribute to the overall goals and objectives of the external relations programs.
  • Demonstrates excellent organizational, interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Skill and experience to proactively build, strengthen and maintain high-quality relationships with alumni, donors and community members.
  • Skill and ability with managing multi-phase projects from inception to completion, including the ability to build consensus among team members and balance multiple concurrent priorities.
  • Ability to use sound judgment in situations requiring independent initiative, tact and discretion with respect to strategic and confidential material.
  • Exceptional ability to work independently, as part of a team, and in a networked way, emphasizing collaboration in a complex environment.
  • Understanding of and commitment to NCAA rules and regulations,
  • Significant experience and documented track record of successful fundraising at the major gift level.
Preferred Qualifications

EDUCATION:
Advanced degree or related professional degree.

  • Management skills to educate, lead and inspire fundraising professionals and other team members.
  • Experience with governing board development and the principles of laws applicable to board governance.
  • Extensive fundraising experience (typically eight or more years) with a proven track record of identifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding major gifts from individuals is highly preferred.
