Responsible for inspection, repair, maintenance, and construction of structural, electrical, mechanical, cosmetic and other facility systems throughout the campus through the administration of various trades and service contracts.

Required Qualifications

High School graduate or equivalent.

Valid driver’s license.

Substantial experience at the journeyman level in mechanical, electrical, or structural trade.

Significant experience supervising tradespersons and/or trades contract administrators.

Significant experience in facility work planning and estimating.

Considerable knowledge of facilities maintenance and repair methods and codes relating to general, electrical, or mechanical systems maintenance and repair.

Basic knowledge of building code requirements as related to facility maintenance and repair.

Knowledge of computerized maintenance management systems.

Ability to plan and schedule work.

Ability to maintain project status and budget reports and records.

Good oral and written communication.

Ability to communicate effectively with contractors, engineering consultants, faculty, staff, and students.

Ability to read and interpret plans, technical manuals, diagrams, other engineering drawings, and specifications used in the building trades.

Ability to administer single or multi-trade construction contracts

Understanding of contract administration procedures and the state procurement process.

Ability to evaluate a facility problem and develop a solution or seek additional expertise.

Preferred Qualifications

Substantial experience in the administration of contracts within Higher Education.

Knowledge of facility preventative maintenance program management.

Contract negotiation experience.

Experience developing scopes of work for small, multi-trade facility projects.

Degree or certification in engineering, facilities management or similar field.

This position has been designated as essential to the operation of the department and will require reporting to work when the university is officially closed, and is subject to overtime.

This position is subject to overtime and schedule changes and may be required to work shifts during weekends, holidays, and special events.

Incumbent may be required to participate in the Facilities Management “on-call” program.
