Description:

The Romance Languages Department of Washington and Lee University invites applications for a full-time 2-year position at the level of Visiting Assistant Professor of French beginning in academic year 2019-20. Area of specialty is open. Only candidates with native or near-native fluency in French will be considered, and the successful candidate will have a PhD at the time of hiring. Candidates must demonstrate excellence in teaching language and literature at all levels, as well as a commitment to scholarly research and publishing. Teaching load is 6 courses per year, including language courses, introductory courses on literature and culture, and an occasional upper-level course on a topic of interest.


Qualifications:

Successful candidate will have a PhD at the time of hiring. We are especially interested in candidates with a dynamic teaching style, knowledge of language teaching pedagogies, a familiarity with ACTFL proficiency standards, an ability to implement inclusive pedagogy, and a passion for the French language and its diverse cultural expressions.
