The MBA and MSx Programs at the Stanford Graduate School of Business seek an experienced professional to serve as an Associate Director in Strategy and Curricular Support. The central purpose of this role is to support students as they navigate their GSB degree program by serving as an academic advisor and primary contact for a student cohort. This role requires working collaboratively with staff colleagues on a wide range of topics. In addition to responsibilities directly related to supporting a student cohort, the person in this role would be a fully-integrated member of the MBA and MSx Programs team and have additional program management responsibilities.




The ideal candidate has experience working with professional students, is familiar with business curriculum, and enjoys and excels at developing and implementing programming to support students as they navigate academic requirements and co-curricular activities. Experience in academic advising at the graduate student level, and working with individuals who are not direct reports is desired. The ideal candidate has outstanding communication skills, a constructive approach to problem-solving, a good sense of humor and a sharp mind.




This position works closely with students and has a significant impact on the student community. The Associate Director reports to the Director of Strategy and Curricular Support.

JOB PURPOSE:
Administer, implement, and interpret university and department policies and procedures on issues regarding student life, advising and academic services. Identify, clarify, and resolve highly visible or complex issues with substantial significance and impact that may span multiple areas, using expert technical and professional knowledge requiring independent judgment.

Your primary responsibilities include:
  • Administer the academic advising program in student services, evaluate and recommend decisions on program eligibility. Review decisions recommended by other staff.
  • Collaborate with others to help resolve program issues and concerns, interpret policies, and mediate complex and sensitive issues.
  • Resolve multi-dimensional matters in response to students in crisis, at risk, or who have other program issues, counsel students and parents on sensitive and confidential issues.
  • Provide guidance and counsel, oversee and develop a wide range of programs and services, analyze effectiveness and make recommendations for future programs.
  • Reconcile complex issues; analyze diverse transactions from multiple sources.
  • Summarize data from multiple sources, prepare management reports and presentations.
  • Identify and evaluate data needs, manage the implementation and development of technology.
  • Provide advice to students on a range of issues, including, but not limited to, academic progress, academic program policies, career plans, accessibility, community standards, etc., in order to assist them in making appropriate choices and decisions.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert to other departments; represent unit/department.
  • Lead, create and contribute to development of business practices and organizational change to improve processes and workflow.
  • May oversee, analyze and assist in financial processes and development of budgets.
  • Serve as a key member of university wide teams and projects.
  • May train and supervise other staff, volunteers and temporary workers.
  • Other duties may also be assigned

To be successful in this position, you will bring:
  • Bachelor's degree and five years of relevant experience, or combination of education and relevant experience. Master's degree preferred.
  • Advanced communication skills to clearly and effectively communicate information to internal and external audiences, client groups, and all levels of management.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills to review and analyze complex information.
  • Advanced computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Office Suite and Google G Suite.
  • Advanced customer service skills.
  • Relevant computer systems/technology experience.
  • Understanding of financial transactions.
  • Ability to ensure and apply compliance with legal, financial, and university policies and external regulations.
