The University of Miami Healthcare System seeks an experienced, full-time, clinically credentialed, seasoned Quality Outcome Specialist RN to identify and implement real-time clinical performance improvement. The ideal candidate is experienced interpreting and analyzing concurrent and retrospective data reports, and utilizing results to identify opportunities for improvement. The Quality Outcome Specialist is adept at providing training and feedback to clinicians individually or in a group setting.  This position requires excellent organization, attention to detail, follow up skills, and verbal and written communication.

General Department Functions:
  • Prepare comprehensive documentation to support all related activities. 
  • Ensure the timely reporting to appropriate individuals through a systematic and defined multidisciplinary process.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities and required trainings.
  • Accountable to respect the rights and privacy of others at all times, including the confidentiality of patient information in accordance with established administrative policies and procedures, regulatory standards and guidelines, and governmental rules and regulations.
  • Work as a team member to meet departmental responsibilities, goals and state and national reporting goals.
  • Serve as a reliable resource to hospital staff, physicians, and patients on matters related data analysis.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities and required trainings, and assigned committees. 
  • Assist with data analysis, reports and presentations for departmental committees, meetings, and projects as requested.
  • Keep manager briefed on all critical updates, and serve as a subject matter expert in support of manager.
Essential Requirements:
 
  • Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing, Health Science, Public Health, Health Informatics or a related health care field, required. 
  • Minimum State of Florida Licensed Practical Nurse, State of Florida Registered Nurse (RN), or ability to obtain a Florida licensure by endorsement in first six months of position start date. Clinical licensure must be kept clear and active for duration of employment.
  • Preferences: RN, Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS), Six Sigma or related, Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ), Degree in Nursing Informatics
  • Minimum 3 years clinical nurse work experience in a clinical or healthcare environment with a Bachelor’s Degree, inclusive of one year identifying real time performance improvement opportunities, providing provider performance feedback and training clinicians, and collaboratively sustaining improvements in a complex healthcare setting. 
  • Proficiency in Epic.
  • State and Federal regulation knowledge.
  • Joint Commission Standards and National Patient Safety Goals’ knowledge.
  • Required experience supporting clinical quality or process improvement initiatives in a complex hospital system.
  • Experience tracking health information through various sources. 
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision. 
  • Able to travel to offsite locations

Preference given to any combination of the following experiences: 

  • Coursework, continuing education completion of quality and patient safety, clinical informatics, patient centered outcomes, quality improvement, and related topics.
  • Acute care experience, in clinical specialty, within the last two years.
  • National Certification in area of clinical specialty.
  • Familiar with aspects of care, standards of care metrics for accreditation and maintenance.
  • Experience with database software.
  • Evidence of ability to draw on knowledge from the following areas: Measurement of patient needs and nursing workload, continuous process improvement processes, performance improvement, service excellence, systems for patient safety, healthcare quality.
