Position Information Position Title Steam Equip Mechanic Job Search Identifier Staff Proposed Salary $31,097.00 General Summary of Responsibilities- Responsible for the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of the main Campus Boiler plant and steam distribution system, condensate system, pressure reducing valves, and all other auxiliary equipment. The Steam Equipment Mechanic will be on-call, which means responding to emergency calls, including nights and weekends, as scheduled by the supervisor. Work hours are 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM with an unpaid, fixed hour for lunch. Additional time may be required to handle work which extends past the hours mentioned, or to respond to emergency calls. These additional hours may be paid at overtime or the standard hours for the week may be altered to create a 40 hour work period, at the discretion of the Assistant Director of Maintenance.
- Work safely and follow safety rules. Report any unsafe working conditions and behavior to management. Take reasonable and prudent actions to prevent others from engaging in unsafe practices. Complies with all applicable health and safety regulations, policies, and establish work practices.
Required Qualifications- Completion of high school/GED
- 5 Years related experience
- State of Georgia Certification to install, maintain or service boilers.
- Valid drivers license and completion of defensive driving course
Preferred Qualifications Physical Requirements- Ability to perform the essential functions of the position with reasonable accommodation.

Compliance Requirements- Position Requires completion of VSU’s Annual Compliance Training course (such as State Business Transactions, Drug Free Workplace, Anti-Harassment Policy, Introduction to Information Security, Workers Compensation, Motor Vehicle Policy, USG Ethics Policy, Conflict of Interest/ Outside Activities Policy, Leave Procedures for Faculty and Staff, Georgia Open Records Act, Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), and Contracts 101. Supervisory positions require training in FMLA and Worker’s Compensation.
