Athletics Academic Affairs is hiring Content Tutors.  We will hire across all discipline areas including, but not limited to: Natural Sciences, Math, Statistics, Social Sciences, Economics, Psychology, Politics, World Languages, etc. The role of the Content Tutor is to assist student-athletes with course specific knowledge and skill acquisition shaped, but not limited to, test/quiz preparation, decoding of lecture content, and managing the reading load.  Qualified applicants will become a member of the Cavalier Academic Support Team (CAST).

Content Tutors meet with their assigned student(s) on a regular schedule (typically weekly or twice weekly, however, this can vary).  Content tutors work in small group or one-on-one with student-athletes.
    
Areas of support include, but are not limited to: comprehending all reading material, preparing for exams, preparing for written assignments, and preparing for discussion sections. Focus is placed on teaching skills so they are directly applicable to the current assignment, yet also relevant to future coursework.
 
Content tutors receive training from the academic affairs staff specific to tutoring expectations and application of study strategies to course curriculum.   

Content Tutor Responsibilities:
-Craft and deliver tutoring sessions specific to the course content. 
-Comply with all NCAA and ACC rules and regulations as well as the UVA Honor Code guidelines through continuous training.
-Complete session reports at the end of each session via the Athletics Academic Affairs reporting system.

-Communicate with Academic Coordinator regarding any issues or concerns with student performance.

-Establish professional working relationships with students, academic coordinators, and tutor coordinator.
-Attend tutor orientation prior to the beginning of each semester.
-Monitor student progress and report to the appropriate constituents.

-Additional duties as assigned.

Tutors will be paid for 1.5 hours of time for each 1 hour session to compensate for time spent preparing for the session.   

The typical tutoring schedule will likely be between the hours of 6 to 10pm Monday through Thursday and 5 to 10pm on Sundays.

Positions will be located within the Office of Academic Affairs at the John Paul Jones Arena.

Position Compensation: $12.36 - $15.00 Hourly

The University will perform background checks on all new hires prior to employment.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education: High School Diploma with some college coursework. A master's degree is preferred.

Experience: Must have proven experience, ability, and training in the content area being tutoring. Experience with teaching, advising, tutoring or mentoring. Volunteer experience and experience as a student will be considered. Experience working with students in higher education is preferred.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

-Must have knowledge of the content area. 
-Must be able to deliver study strategies specific to the content area.   

-Must have strong communication skills.

-Must be highly-organized.

-Must be able to maintain confidentiality
