The Department of Neurology seeks a Research Program Officer to work with Dr. Pelphrey to promote excellence and growth in autism research. This individual will be the main point of contact for a large study and duties will include: coordinating communication, developing IRB documents and coordinating events to promote outreach and collaboration.

Candidates must have a bachelor's degree and at least two years of previous experience in research. A masters degree and previous experience in Autism are preferred.

Research Program Officers serve as key staff members for a research program. They facilitate and coordinate planning and operational activities in support of the program's mission, and often assume responsibility for the implementation of a key initiative. Duties combine administrative responsibilities, research, and program outreach and promotion. They serve as subject matter experts in a relevant field of research. Their work is independent, and they may supervise staff.

This position is restricted and its continuation is contingent upon funding.

  • Collaborate across disciplines and functional areas by building relationships between the research program and its external stakeholders.
  • Coordinate with other faculty, researchers, and project partners, to achieve the program's objectives.
  • Assist in curriculum development, workshops, and training. Develop teaching materials, as well as participate in professional conferences.
  • Provide specialized administrative support, such as fundraising or day-to-day administration.
  • Provide public relations support by promoting the accomplishments and developments of scholars and research initiatives.
  • Participate in the program budgeting and accounting processes to ensure a cost-effective execution of deliverables.
  • May participate or assist in primary research, data collection, interviewing, and analysis.
  • In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education: Bachelor's Degree in Psychology or related field.
Preferred Education: Master's Degree preferred

Experience: Some up to four years of relevant experience. At least 2 years experience in research development at a research-intensive university is required.

Preferred Experience: Previous experience with Autism is preferred.

Licensure: None.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

--Knowledge of the proposal development and submission process at a university.
--Ability to manage multiple projects with different deadlines.
--Excellent written/verbal communication skills.  
--Demonstrated ability to work independently with strong attention to detail and to work as a member of a team. 
--Strong interpersonal and organization skills.
--Experience working with faculty and students

COMPUTER APPLICATIONS

Required Computer Applications:

--Developing and conducting workshops on funding discovery tools, including Pivot and GrantForward.
--Experience with Microsoft suite, including Word, Excel and Power Point.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require walking some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
