Bachelor’s Degree. Four (4) years of full time relevant Unix/Linux server and storage administration experience. Experience with scripting, volume & firewall management, virtualization, monitoring and supporting hardware & software issues. Experience supporting enterprise application delivery (such as email, web, ERP, etc.).

 

Preferred Qualifications: Experience with Red Hat or Oracle Enterprise Linux. Experience with Solaris, CentOS, and general web services (Apache, PHP, MySQL, etc.). Experience with multi-site SAN deployments. Experience with zoning and storage management best practices. Experience with enterprise backup technologies (such as NetBackup).

 

Brief Description of Duties: The Senior Linux/Unix Administrator will troubleshoot complex technical issues related to infrastructure and storage that impact multiple departments of the organization and the availability of mission-critical IT services. This position will focus on the delivery of data center services to our customers and is structured around both current and legacy platforms in a consumption-based services model. They will also provide Infrastructure services in all areas needed: storage, networking, Operating System, security, server virtualization using system backup and restore, system monitoring, application installation and configuration. Linux/Unix Administrator will also perform standard system administration duties including server install/configuration, firewall management, System/Application install and patch management, Unix/Linux/Storage problem determination and escalation, log analysis, etc. 

Duties:

Architect and maintain Linux/Unix infrastructure supporting Blackboard, PeopleSoft, Campus databases, Campus email routing & web services, load balancers, instructional computing services for faculty, staff and students. Monitor and correct critical server/storage issues and processes. Manage the functionality and efficiency of multiple computer operating systems (OS), primarily Linux/Unix. Implement and monitor system backups and disaster recovery. Create procedures and guidelines to install/patch/configure various servers. Evaluate and effectively communicate complex system problem identification and resolution. Analyze and execute configuration and audit strategies to assist in ensuring compliance with standard settings and security direction. Participate in the development and execution of scripts executed by the Unix/Linux team. Install and configure servers (on-premise or cloud-based), set up administrator and service accounts, tune system performance, manage security, install software, validate and implement critical system patches.

 

Implement, maintain, remediate and troubleshoot for server and storage platform technologies. Plan, administer and supporting multi-site SAN infrastructures. Conduct research and development to drive innovation and propose new technology. Support the operational posture of the Enterprise server and interconnections to attached storage (NAS, SAN, and Flash Storage types) and supports incident, change and request cases submitted to the Linux/Unix team for resolution.

 

Monitor overall health of the backup environment. Configure new master/media servers and new tape drives and tape libraries. Create reports on backup statistics, client success/failure rates, media server usage rates and other reports as needed.
 

Contribute to database architecture & design, development, implementation, review, and support critical production issues. Perform database administration activities for development and production (on demand) environments including; Job monitoring, release deployment, basic configuration, process monitoring, and database backup & restore.
 

Other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to rank and department mission.

 

Special Notes: This is a full time appointment. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain FLSA exemption.
