Reports to the Dean, Health Sciences, and works collaboratively with the Respiratory Therapist Program Director and other faculty and staff in the Health Sciences Division. The Respiratory Therapist Instructor/Clinical Education Director is responsible for theory and clinical instruction, including student evaluation, and arranging, evaluating, and overseeing all clinical education experiences. This includes organizing adjunct faculty and student clinical assignments, and providing liaison with the division office. Participation as a full-time faculty member in department, division and campus-wide activities is required. Night and weekend work may be required; work assignment includes all District campuses and sites; location assignments other than District campuses and sites may be required.Desirable Qualifications

Experience with “Human Patient Simulation” a plus.Duties and Responsibilities
Provide classroom and clinical instruction and student evaluation in a variety of settings. Demonstrates current clinical and theoretical knowledge required by a curriculum that is highly responsive to a rapidly changing and demanding job market.
Provide leadership for the clinical education component of the respiratory therapist program. This includes organization, continuous review, planning, development and general effectiveness of the clinical component of the program.
Provide leadership in recruiting new clinical faculty and preceptors. Maintain current clinical contracts and pursue new clinical opportunities.
Work collaboratively with the program director, advisory board, adjunct faculty, community and students to evaluate the program curriculum and implement necessary changes.
Provide academic advisement to students and serve as a role model through participation in professional organizations and demonstration of exceptional practice skills.
Develop on-line courses and increase skills in the use of educational technology to the benefit of the program.
Develop curriculum and contribute to the department program review processes.
Perform other related duties as assigned within the Health Sciences Division.
Participate in faculty recruitment.
Hold required office hours and attend division meetings.
Carry out collegial responsibilities including, but not limited to, institutional committee assignments, student recruitment and retention, and participation in shared governance committees and campus life activities.
Communicate and work cooperatively with colleagues (within discipline and college-wide) on matters regarding course offerings, programs, and activities that would enhance the development of the department and college.
Continue professional development and remain current in the field through course work, conferences, workshops, and other appropriate means.
Perform duties described in Board policy, the Faculty Handbook, the UFO Contract, and as assigned at the Fremont and Newark campuses, and/or other designated locations.
Perform other duties as assigned.Minimum Qualifications
1. A current valid license to practice as a Registered Respiratory Care Practitioner in the State of California.
2. Registered Respiratory Therapist by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC).
3. The Director of Clinical Education must have a minimum of four (4) years experience as a Registered Respiratory Therapist; of which at least two (2) years must include clinical respiratory care.
4. The Director of Clinical Education must have a minimum of two (2) years experience teaching in an accredited respiratory care program either as an appointed faculty member or as a clinical preceptor.
5. Any bachelor’s or master’s degree from an accredited institution plus two (2) years professional experience, or any associates degree and six (6) years of professional experience (may include adjunct appointment and/or clinical liaison/preceptor.) Registered Respiratory Therapy credential required.
Note: Applicants who have not yet earned a bachelor’s or master’s degree as listed above at the time of the application deadline, but who expect to receive any of the above-listed degrees must submit a letter from the graduate school dean certifying their anticipated completion date by August 2019.
6. The district participates in a group health plan and offers a variety of medical plans. Dental is offered through Delta Dental, Vision offered through Vision Service Plan (VSP), and Life insurance through UNUM.
Medical*: Enrollment in medical coverage through the district is optional. For those faculty that choose to enroll in one of the offered medical plans, the district currently provides an allowance of $1,200 per month to offset the cost of the medical benefits premium.
Dental, Vision and Life Insurances: The district provides for and fully pays the premiums for you and your family for dental and vision, and for the employee only premium for life insurance. Enrollment in Dental, Vision and Life insurances are mandatory.
Long-term Disability (LTD) and Employee Assistance Program (EAP): The district provides for and fully pays the premiums for long-term disability for you and EAP for you and your family.
Other employee paid benefits (optional): voluntary additional life insurance; IRC Section 125 Flexible Medical and Dependent Care spending plans; 403(B) and 457(b) Tax Shelter Annuity plans; 403(b) Roth IRA plan.
Retirement: Membership in the State Teachers’ Retirement System (STRS) or the Public Employees’ Retirement System (PERS). Candidates hired on or after January 1, 2013 are subject to restrictions imposed by PEPRA.
Sick Leave: One day per month, accumulating indefinitely, if unused. All other Education Code leave benefits apply.
Sabbatical Leave: After 6 consecutive years of employment with the district you will be eligible for sabbatical leave. You will receive 100% pay for one semester leave and 70% for an academic year.
Enrollment Fee Waiver: Employees and their qualified dependents receive enrollment fee waiver for courses taken at Ohlone College.
