Job Details

Trinity Christian College seeks a full time Area Director for the Student Life Department. We seek to cultivate an academic community in which students flourish as they encounter the Triune God with their whole lives and discover the joy of their vocation. Two Residence Life Area Directors at Trinity work collaboratively to lead, develop, and oversee a residence life program that actively contributes to the Student Life purpose and outcomes. This particular opening is for the Area Director who primary oversees a living area which houses sophomores, juniors, and seniors. The Area Director position is a full time, 11 month (48 week) position that requires on-site residency. A competitive salary and benefit package is available.

 

The essential duties and responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to the following:

Residence Life Program Leadership

  • Collaborate to lead, develop and manage a comprehensive residence life program that embodies the student life purpose and seeks to educate students toward the student life outcomes
  • Develop, implement, and assess programming for resident students consistent with the student life outcomes
  • Work to create residential community that reflects the college’s commitments to diversity and unity
  • Strengthen the value and quality of the residential experience at Trinity in support of the college’s residency expectation

Supervision

  •  Facilitate the ongoing selection, training, and evaluation of paraprofessional residence life staff
  • Supervise 8-12 Resident Assistants (RAs) and one upper-class undergraduate Assistant Area Director (AAD), including structuring regular individual and group meetings that develop student leadership capacity
  • Supervise 1-2 (student) summer housing coordinator(s)

Conduct

  • Serve as the primary student conduct officer for his/her residential area
  • Serve as a member of the conduct & resolution pool – a cross-disciplinary team of faculty and staff trained to engage with various accountability processes across the college including the non-discrimination resolution process

Crisis Management & Student Support

  •  Serve in a rotating on-call capacity with other professional student life staff
  • Provide direct proactive and responsive intervention to students of concern including, but not limited to, mental health related concerns and crises
  • Provide support and assistance to the Dean of Student Life and VP for Student Life and Athletics in the managing of student crises.
  • Serve as a member of the Student Response Team—a group that provides outreach and support to students of concern

College-wide Engagement

  • Promote the residence life program within the college community
  • Contribute to student recruitment by promoting the residence life program to admissions staff and prospective students
  • Maintain a high level of availability on the campus and in the residence halls
  • Collaborate effectively with student life and college wide offices/departments
  • Serve on various college-wide committees or task forces

Retention & Community Development

  •  Contribute to the college’s retention efforts through participation in the Student Response Team
  • Develop familiarity with and promote college programs and community resources to residential students
  • Serve as a key connector for students to college resources for flourishing
  • Support the office of student programs in campus-wide programming efforts

Administrative Responsibilities

  •  Serve as the primary housing administrator for his/her respective residence halls to include housing selection, housing assignments, key distribution/collection, resident check in/out, facilities and operations
  • Collaborate effectively with the Coordinator for Student Services and Director of Campus Safety regarding student room and board records and residence hall access
  • Engage in ongoing professional development
  • Manage residence life budgets
  • Other duties as assigned

A master’s degree in student affairs administration or an area relating to college student development is preferred. Previous experience in Residence Life or Student Affairs is preferred. Supervision of paraprofessional staff is required; supervision of graduate practicum student is possible.

Essential qualifications:

  •  Ability to effectively use Microsoft Office systems and student records systems
  • Ability to maintain trust and confidentiality (when appropriate) with sensitive information and student records
  • Professional expertise and integrity
  • A clear vision for diversity in Christian higher education
  • Effective administrative, interpersonal, and collaboration skills
  • Effectiveness in program development and evaluation

Desired qualifications:

  • Previous experience with Maxient incident management software
  • Previous experience working with an ethnically, denominationally, and/or culturally diverse populations

This position requires on-site residency; a 2-bedroom apartment with amenities is provided. Working hours are often common business hours; however, some evening, weekend or late hours are expected and will be significant at times. High visibility at campus events and activities is expected.
