The Director of Financial Reporting oversees the consolidation and internal reporting process for the Medical Center to ensure consistency with University policies/procedures and/or US GAAP. He/she is responsible for the adherence to and communication of consistent accounting policies and procedures across the School of Medicine and the Medical Group. He/she will be responsible for understanding and overseeing the preparation and review of various external financial reporting, including most notably government surveys, Schedule H on the University’s 990 tax return, the Medical Group’s patient care receivables, and reporting of the JMH AOA contract.

Job Responsibilities:
                            

Reporting to the Associate Vice President for Financial Operations, this individual will be responsible for performing several financial reporting duties including overseeing the compilation of monthly internal financial statements for the School of Medicine, standardizing reporting presentation across the Medical Center, and managing the completion of various external reports.

Specifically, the Director of Financial Reporting will be responsible for:

  • Managing the month‐end close process including the posting of accruals, estimates and other adjusting entries in order to close the books on a timely basis
  • Overseeing the valuation of the Medical Group’s patient care receivables, reporting of the AOA contract with Jackson Memorial Hospital, and preparation of inter company transactions, elimination entries and consolidated month‐end financial statements
  • Maintaining standardized financial reporting presentation among the Hospitals’ internal/external statements and the School of Medicine and the Medical group
  • Developing automation and standardization around regular accounting reports and schedules
  • Supervising the Decision support team who design and improve the management information systems utilized for internal and external reporting
  • Coordinating and completing the compilation of the University’s 990 tax return Schedule H and other government surveys for the Medical Center
  • Manage external audit requirements
  • Working closely with the Director of Financial Reporting at the University level on internal and external reporting matters, along with the Director of Accounting in Medical Finance, Hospital Controller, and Budget teams on general accounting and finance matters to close the fiscal month.
  • Fostering and building teamwork between the accounting and operating function

Essential Requirements:                                        

  • Education: Bachelor/Master of Accounting and/or CPA preferred
  • Experience: At least 7 years combined experience in Big Four and/or industry experience
  • Experience in GAAP and accrual accounting
  • Proficient in MS Office (Excel, Word, Power Point)
  • Ability to work independently in a fast paced environment, well organized with attention to detail, multitask under time constraints and priorities
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with talent to work across all functions and at all levels throughout the organization and external parties
  • Team player with strong communication skills to support the delivery of goals and objectives
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively lead through delegation and coaching
  • High personal standards of integrity, ethical behavior, fairness and respect in dealing with others Any appropriate combination of education, certifications, and/or relevant experience will be considered.
