Job Detail Campus Location Boston Campus Working Title Part Time Staff Social Worker (Substance Abuse) DescriptionThe Substance Abuse Specialist is a member of the Counseling and Psychological Services professional team at Emerson College.
The primary responsibilities include:
•individual & group counseling of graduate & undergraduate students
•intake assessments and crisis intervention
•mandated assessments, referrals, treatment planning, and documentation
•present educational programs that contribute to Student Affairs’ objectives using a Harm Reduction model
•provide consultation within the campus community
•provide group therapy using harm reduction and abstinence models informed by professionally-accepted and empirically-supported best practices
•collaborate with student conduct and other departments
•Licensed Psychologist, Social Worker (LISCW)
•Strong clinical and diagnostic skills; familiarity with psycho-social problems associated with substance abuse in college populations
•Well-developed outreach and program development skills
•Excellent verbal and written communication skills
•Willingness to function as an integral team member within the department and division
•Competency with and commitment to multicultural counseling and to professional ethics;
•Commitment to equal opportunity/affirmative action and to creating and sustaining an environment supporting full inclusion for a diverse student population
•Good computer skills
•Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LADC)
•Familiarity with electronic medical record systems (Titanium preferred)
•Experience in a university setting
•Ability to apply developmental conceptualization to clinical cases
•Knowledge of referral options in the Boston area
3-5 years’ experience as a licensed therapist with expertise in Substance Abuse Treatment
Special Instructions to ApplicantsPlease note this position is a Part-Time, Benefits-Eligible position for 21.75 hours per wk for 11 months working paid over the entire year.

Job Duties Individual Work ActivitiesTreatment planning and case coordination; provide assistance as needed with training program; consultation and collaboration with students, parents, staff/faculty, and community; remain professionally current with knowledge and practice. Position requires evening hours.

Design and provide prevention and educational programs for students relating to issues of Substance Use and Abuse.
Participate in on-call rotation, responding to after-hours emergencies as needed.
