The Office of Information Technology’s (OIT) Windows & Middleware Services group (WMS) is located within the Shared Services unit. WMS offers Windows and Active Directory-based infrastructure and services that support the enterprise, including on-premises and cloud solutions. We provide middleware services that integrate related campus systems. We work collaboratively with other campus IT units to deliver the core Active Directory infrastructure for the NC State community.

Essential Job Duties

This position serves as a Windows Systems Administrator for NC State University’s Windows & Active Directory based enterprise infrastructure services and will provide system administration, automation and support for various Microsoft technologies that support the unit’s Windows and middleware services.

The Systems Administrator is responsible for the following: assessing emerging technologies, solutions and services for fit into the NC State computing environment; implementing new solutions and integrating them with other campus services; collaboratively designing, implementing, and supporting technical solutions that scale to the entire campus environment; providing leadership to other technical staff; and providing third-tier technical support and serves in an on-call rotation providing triage and first responder support for the unit’s Windows and integrated infrastructure.

Other Work/Responsibilities

Serve in on-call rotation. Occasional work outside university business hours may be required.

Minimum Experience/Education

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or closely related degree from an appropriately accredited institution and three years of experience in operations analysis and design, systems programming, or closely related area; or a Bachelor’s degree from an appropriately accredited institution and four years of experience in operations analysis and design, systems programming or closely related area; or an Associate’s degree in Computer Information Technology, Computer Engineering Technology, or Networking Technology from an appropriately accredited institution and five years of experience in operations analysis and design, systems programming, or closely related area; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Departmental Required Skills

- Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Active Directory.

- Experience with Windows-based Configuration Management (example: SCCM)

- Solid understanding of TCP/IP networking (subnets, firewall rules, DNS resolution, etc.)

- Powershell programming experience in automating system administration tasks.

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education

- Experience with one or more supporting services: SQL Server, RDS, or ADFS.

- Experience with Cloud services, preferably Azure/Office365.

- Experience in a higher education environment.
