About the College/Unit/Department

The College of Public Health promotes health in human populations, addresses environmental health issues, and prevents disease and injury in Georgia, the United States and globally through innovative research, exemplary education, and engaged service. Founded in 2005, the College of Public Health is comprised of four academic departments and four research institutes. The college is accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH) and was re-accredited by CEPH in September 2014 for a seven-year term. The College has approximately 70 full-time faculty and 140 staff that serve an enrollment of approximately 1,000 students per year. Located on the 58-acre UGA Health Sciences Campus near downtown Athens, the College offers BS, MPH, MS, DrPH and PhD degrees with concentrations and certificates in biostatistics, disaster management, environmental health, epidemiology, gerontology, global health, health promotion and behavior, infectious disease epidemiology, public health, and health policy and management.

Position Summary

The College of Public Health invites applications and nominations for Associate Dean for Academic Affairs (ADAA). The ADAA reports directly to the Dean, serves on the college’s Executive Committee, and develops and implements all major activities of the college’s teaching mission. Primary responsibilities of the ADAA include: (i) oversight of the undergraduate and graduate degree programs, minors, and certificates; (ii) verifying college compliance with all University of Georgia policies and procedures and accrediting body requirements (e.g., CEPH); (iii) aligning all educational programs with the college’s and university’s short- and long-term strategic plans; (iv) coordinating the college promotion and tenure process; and (v) overseeing the Office of Academic Affairs’ staff in the provision of services related to student recruitment and admissions, financial aid and scholarships, academic progress and support, curriculum development and administration, student retention, and job-placement. The ideal candidate will be familiar CEPH’s missions, policies, and reaccreditation processes. Teaching, research, and service activities are expected and will be negotiated with the Dean.

Additional Requirements

An advanced degree (PhD, DrPH, MD, or other relevant doctoral degree) in a public-health related field and a background commensurate with appointment to the rank of professor with tenure. To be eligible for tenure upon appointment, candidates must be appointed as a full professor, have been tenured at a prior institution, and bring a demonstrably national reputation to the institution. Candidates must be approved for tenure upon appointment before hire.
