Position Description
  • Position Summary 

    The Department of Mechanical, Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering (MIME) at The University of Toledo (UT) is seeking outstanding scholars and educators to fill full-time, tenure-track faculty positions at the rank of assistant or associate professor beginning fall 2019.  Preferred areas of interest include experimental thermal and fluids, as well as mechatronics and intelligent systems.  Successful candidates will develop and sustain an externally funded research program, teach and develop undergraduate and graduate courses and laboratories, supervise graduate student research, engage in scholarly and professional service activities, and support diversity.

    The department currently has 15 tenure-track or tenured faculty members and more than 900 undergraduate and 80 graduate students pursuing BS, MS and PhD degrees.  The College of Engineering’s Small Turbine Institute was established in 2004 to conduct advanced gas turbine engine research.  Since its launch, the Institute has received more than $9 million in external funding from Teledyne Turbine Engine, Bell Helicopter Textron, NASA, Air Force Research Laboratory, Lockheed Martin Aerospace, and the Ohio Third Frontier Wright Projects program to conduct research and training on advanced air vehicles.  The hydraulic test facility, as well as the wind tunnel, has generated significant success in securing external funding in military and civilian applications, as well as biofluid systems, in close collaboration with faculty in UT’s College of Medicine and Life Sciences.  The MIME faculty, in collaboration with faculty in the College of Medicine and Life Sciences, has a long history of externally funded research and entrepreneurship.  They have invented several medical devices and technologies that have resulted in six medical device startup companies.  The MIME department’s major research facilities also include fatigue and fracture, tribology, rotor dynamics, materials characterization and processing laboratories, and access to the College of Engineering’s two research centers:  the Engineering Center for Orthopaedic Research Excellence and the Center for Materials and Sensor Characterization.  Additionally, the College of Engineering has a long history of collaboration with regional automotive, energy, and glass industries, as well as the NASA Glenn Research Center in Cleveland, Ohio.  More information about the MIME Department can be found at: www.utoledo.edu/engineering/mechanical-industrial-manufacturing-engineering/

  • Qualifications

    Applicants must have an earned PhD in mechanical engineering or a closely related field.

    Prior post-doctoral or industrial experience is highly desirable.
