Department Overview
As a division of the Office of the President of the University of North Texas, the Office of Finance and Administration is responsible for supporting the academic mission of the institution by ensuring the university's safety, security and sound financial welfare. It is the mission of the division to deliver the highest quality services to the university community and constituents using the most appropriate and progressive technology. Student Financial Services is part of the Office of Finance and Administration. The department is responsible for the billing and collection of tuition, fees and third-party charges for the University. The staff issues ID cards, administers payment plans, processes refunds and manages collection efforts. Additional information is available online at https://sfs.unt.edu.

Job Description
The Student Financial Services Department at the University of North Texas is seeking to hire a Customer Service Representative to join our team. Responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:

* Assist customers in person at the front counter of Student Financial Services.
* Assist customers by phone and email.
* Provide student tuition and fee billing information to students and parents.
* Use computer system to access data base for obtaining account status or entering data on assigned accounts; verifies accuracy before and after entry.
* Reconcile collection agency payments and reports with student record system.
* Complete timely processing of collection agency payments.
* Review accounts for accuracy and validate balance/billing to collection agencies and students/parents.
* Identify and understand when a collection issue should be escalated to supervisor.
* Maintain a working knowledge of rules and regulations pertaining to collection methods and techniques.
* Assist with special projects as requested.

Minimum Qualifications
The successful candidate will possess an Associate's Degree in Accounting and two years of professional related experience in accounting and/or auditing; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. The following knowledge, skills, and abilities are required:

* Working knowledge of accepted accounting practices, legal statutes, and policy and procedure affecting financial record keeping.
* Working knowledge of cost and audit accounting.
* Ability to work accurately with numerical detail consistently and to perform accounting operations legibly.
* Ability to analyze, consolidate, and present accounting data in clear concise form.
* Ability to coordinate and supervise the work of others.

Preferred Qualifications
The preferred candidate will possess the following additional qualifications:

* Ability to deliver exceptional customer service to a diverse population of customers.
* Ability to consistently deliver exceptional customer service in-person, by phone and by electronic communications.
* Ability to work both independently and with a group.
* Ability to develop and maintain positive and effective working relationships with all co-workers.
* Previous experience working in higher education.
* Previous experience working in collections and/or accounts receivable.
