Position Summary

Schedule: Part Time, 20 hrs. per week, M-Th, between 6:00 AM and 5:00 PM, exact schedule TBD

The Cosmetology Assistant works under the direction of the Cosmetology Program Coordinator to supervise students, perform administrative tasks, and model professional workplace behavior.

Specifically, the position assists with student recruitment, interviewing new student prospects from the Adults in Custody (AIC) population, supervising and assisting students, leading small group instruction when needed, and is a role model to students of attitudes and behaviors appropriate in a professional salon. Administrative tasks include duties such as reading and entering data on the prison database system, answering the phone, taking messages, and sending emails pertaining to the program.

The position also maintains security and cleanliness by monitoring all areas of the classroom, unlocking and locking secured items, using state-issued radio and keys in a secure and appropriate manner, and maintaining general cleanliness of the Cosmetology classroom in cooperation with security staff and student workers. Coffee Creek Correctional Facility (CCCF) is a multi-custody prison in Wilsonville accommodating all of the State of Oregon female inmates. Services and features include intake and evaluation of all female and male inmates committed to state custody by the courts, cell and dormitory housing, inmate work programs, skills training, education, treatment programs, health services, religious services, physical plant, warehouse space for on-site storage, a central records unit, and administration areas. Candidate Profile


These qualifications, skills and abilities are critical for success in this position.
Throughout the screening process, you will be evaluated based on the demonstration of these qualifications.

1. Corrections experience or other experience that demonstrates the ability to maintain healthy boundaries, guard against manipulation, and uphold security practices.
2. Demonstrated ability to successfully work self-directed as well as collaborate with stakeholders.
3. Experience in and demonstrated understanding of the beauty industry.
4. Experience successfully supervising/managing a large group of students/employees independently.

Minimum Qualifications

To be considered, your application must demonstrate these minimum qualifications. (Experience is calculated based on the start and end dates you provide multiplied by the number of hours per week worked).

High school diploma or equivalent and two years of post-secondary education in a specific technical discipline appropriate to the instructional support (experience performing the duties of the position may substitute for the post-secondary education requirement on a year-for-year basis).

One year of experience supporting laboratory activities in the technical area is required;

Must have proven communications skills adequate to assist students in understanding the work they are to perform.

Starting Salary Expectations

The first two steps of the range are: $18.43 to $18.98 per hour. Higher salary placement may be available based on qualifications, experience and internal equity.

- 24 hours of additional personal leave days per year - 11 Paid holidays

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

Work pressure, disturbances of work flow and/or irregularities in work schedule are expected and occur on an intermittent basis. Changes in the performance environment require occasional upgrading of skills. Working conditions may be somewhat disagreeable requiring occasional exposure to safety hazards, noise and temperature.
