Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):

Bachelor's Degree (foreign equivalent or higher). Experience in fundraising, outreach, sales, volunteer management, and/or alumni/friend engagement. Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor’s in Business Administration or related field (foreign equivalent or higher). One (1) or more years of full-time experience in fundraising, outreach, sales, volunteer management and/or alumni/friend engagement. Work experience fundraising for Higher Education. Knowledge of and/or familiarity with Stony Brook University, Long Island communities and/or surrounding areas. Experience with Social Media and/or web based fundraising. Experience and/or familiar with donor base software.

Brief Description of Duties:  

The Stony Brook University Annual Fund's strategic plan is to increase the Alumni Participation Rate (APR) is both an institutional priority and a tremendous fundraising opportunity. Across the campus, Stony Brook University is thriving, and alumni are engaged through events, communications and volunteer opportunities. There is a further need to translate that engagement into annual donations, to cultivation relationships with new and existing donors, and to identify and qualify alumni and donors who may have the capacity to be major gift prospects.  This opportunity is being offered to help future leaders build skills and competencies in the field of Advancement.

Gain an understanding of managing a core group of annual giving prospects and donors toward solicitation for the Stony Brook University Funds for Excellence and other related funds based on donor history or interest.

Assist in identifying, qualifying, cultivating, soliciting, and/or stewarding each prospect for an annual gift within the given fiscal year. In select cases, donors may be asked for increased or second gifts.

Work in close partnership with academic and development leadership to assist in creating a fundraising plan for specific opportunities, such as Day of Giving, including specific and measurable goals.

Refer any major gift prospects identified through fundraising efforts to supervisor or other members of the Stony Brook Advancement leadership.

Serve as a member of the Stony Brook University Advancement team. Communicate regularly with direct supervisor, peer development officers, and other Advancement personnel. Foster constructive and cooperative working

relationships with colleagues.

Engage volunteers to utilize them in cultivation and solicitation of gifts. Attend appropriate alumni, college, and university events that present opportunities to advance prospect or donor relationships.

Other duties as assigned.

The Research Foundation of SUNY is a private educational corporation. Employment is subject to the Research Foundation policies and procedures, sponsor guidelines and the availability of funding. FLSA Nonexempt position, eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. May require night and/or weekend hours.
