Job Description Summary

Assist with day to day operations of the department including but not limited to: providing support for stagecraft labs including assisting other students with their work, promoting a safe work environment and keeping the scene shop clean and orderly; assisting faculty with course related tasks like copying and filing; assisting with all areas of theatrical production like costumes, painting, building, and warehouse maintenance.

Specific Duties

Help facilitate stagecraft labs and work calls for the scheduled build of theatrical sets and production elements. Work along side inexperienced students and help them apply techniques of stagecraft safely within the scheduled time. Read plans and follow directives from the Assistant Technical Director and the Technical Director related to building scenic elements and facility/warehouse maintenance.

Minimum Qualifications

At minimum candidates must demonstrate a familiarity with some of the tools and techniques related to the theatre such as sewing, painting, drawing, graphic design, carpentry, electrics, computer software, video, or computer programming by providing a letter of recommendation that speaks to the candidates character and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Ideal candidates will have worked backstage on more than one high school or college theatre production, have completed projects related to building or construction or craft at home or at another institution, or demonstrate through a portfolio or a letter of recommendation, a familiarity with tools and techniques related to the theatre such as sewing, painting, drawing, graphic design, carpentry, electrics, electronics, computer software, video, or computer programming. This position requires patience, a sense of humor, and a sincere desire to help others achieve the highest levels of success in technical theatre in order to foster life long learning, diversity, and community building.

Benefits Summary

Employees are eligible for the following benefits:

One hour of Paid Sick Leave for every 30 hours worked, with a maximum accrual of 24 hours of Paid Sick Leave per year and capped at 48 hours.

University of La Verne Defined Contribution Retirement Plan – can contribute employee voluntary contributions, excluding wages derived from federal work study funds.

In accordance with the Affordable Care Act (ACA), employees who work an average of 30 or more hours per week, will be eligible for medical coverage through the University of La Verne.

Covered under the University of La Verne Workers Compensation Insurance.
