Job Description:

The five aims of the Clinical Postdoctoral Fellowship (CPF) are:

(1) To train and produce clinical psychologists who exhibit an advanced competency level in clinical skills/conduct and ethical standards (consistent with APA principles and all applicable state and institutional regulations) to function effectively as independent practitioners within health service settings;

(2) To train and produce clinical psychologists with advanced competency in the multi-disciplinary team treatment of both eating disorders and substance abuse, as well as integrative behavioral health care;

(3) To train and produce clinical psychologists who demonstrate an advanced competency level with regard to evidence-based practice and the provision of effective psychological services within health service settings;

(4) To train and produce clinical psychologists with advanced competency in the diagnosis and treatment of emerging adults and the health and psychological challenges specific to this population.

Clinical supervision and training support the postdoctoral fellow in attaining clinical proficiency. By the end of the fellowship, the postdoctoral fellow will have attained advanced competence in the knowledge-base and clinical skills required for independent practice.

The postdoctoral fellow may have the opportunity to develop a submission for presentation at the local or national level.

There may also be opportunities for the postdoctoral fellow to provide consultation and informal supervision to junior trainees (e.g., externs and/or pre-doctoral interns).

Under the direction of the Director of Counseling and Psychological Services, the Post-Doctoral Clinician is responsible to provide the following services for University students as noted above, in Counseling and Psychological Services and Student Health Services, more specifically, individual and group psychotherapy; substance abuse and mental health intake assessments; eating disorders evaluation and treatment; triage evaluations; treatment planning; crisis intervention; and referral services. This clinician will work closely with Residential Learning and University Housing in developing and providing substance abuse assessment, treatment, and programming for their developing recovery program as well as work with Title IX Compliance Office in providing clinical and case management services in working with victims of sexual assault. In general, the clinician will work with university staff and Student Life staff across the following areas: the Academic Success Center, Student Health Center (SHC), Residential Learning and University Housing (RLUH), Community Standards and Commuter Services, ASCEND program, Campus Recreation and Student Center, and community agencies to assist or lead the development and delivery of relevant programs, presentations, and events. The Post-Doctoral Clinician maintains confidentiality, integrity of client interactions, treatment protocols, and accurate records.

Rowan University Counseling and Psychological Services (CPS) is located on Rowan’s Glassboro main campus at the Wellness Center in Winans Hall. CPS provides services to undergraduate and graduate Rowan University students. Postdoctoral clinicians are very active and important members of our treatment staff and we support both their clinical and professional growth as colleagues and psychologists. We value their contributions and encourage them to pursue their particular areas of interest with the same passion and commitment that all of the staff bring to CPS. The staff at CPS has a wide range of expertise, theoretical orientations, and specializations. Staff includes licensed psychologists, clinical social workers, professional counselors, addictions counselor, and psychiatrists. All of our staff have extensive training in DBT. Other theoretical orientations/approaches include cognitive-behavioral, psychodynamic, systems focused, interpersonal psychotherapy, motivational interviewing, acceptance and commitment therapy, brief solution-focused, prolonged exposure, trauma-focused, and EMDR.

Qualifications:

Education: Applicants must have completed an APA-accredited doctoral program in clinical psychology prior to start date (9/2/2019).

Experience: Completion of full-time pre-doctoral internship. Our ideal candidate possesses an understanding of intersectionality and how it impacts the daily lives of student, faculty and staff. Cultural competence is of utmost importance. We seek individuals who are collaborative in nature, have strong communication skills, practice good self-care, maintain healthy boundaries, and possess the ability to manage a challenging workload while promoting a positive atmosphere and healthy relationships

Licensures/Certifications: Position is dependent upon applicant obtaining a 3-year temporary supervised permit in NJ by the Sept. 2nd start date

As required by the State of New Jersey, must complete a criminal history check and have proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status.

Working at Rowan University 

Rowan University, located a half-hour outside of Philadelphia with its main campus in suburban Glassboro, N.J., is an institution on the move.

This summer, the University opened Cooper Medical School of Rowan University (CMSRU) in partnership with Cooper University Health Care, in Camden. The first new four-year, M.D.-granting medical school in New Jersey in more than 35 years, CMSRU welcomed its first class in August 2012.

Rowan continues to work with the Borough of Glassboro and private developers on Rowan Boulevard, a $300 million redevelopment project that links the University’s main campus to the historic downtown. This fall alone, the partners broke ground for a new academic building/parking garage and a Marriott Courtyard Hotel. Rowan Boulevard already includes a Barnes & Noble Collegiate Superstore, housing for approximately 1,300 students and retail space.

The University also recently created a School of Biomedical Sciences, which joins nine colleges. In addition to CMSRU they are: the Rohrer College of Business, Communication & Creative Arts, Education, Engineering, Graduate & Continuing Education, Humanities & Social Sciences, Performing Arts, and Science & Mathematics.

Earlier in 2012, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie awarded Rowan state research institution status (not Carnegie classification) as part of the New Jersey Medical and Health Science Education Restructuring Act, making Rowan only the second comprehensive public research institution in the State. That Act also opened the door to Rowan partnering with Rutgers-Camden to create a College of Health Sciences in Camden near CMSRU. The vision for that College calls for schools of medicine, nursing, pharmacy, public health, food science and 16 allied health programs. The University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey’s School of Osteopathic Medicine in nearby Stratford, N.J., is to become part of Rowan in the near future. When that occurs, Rowan will be only the second school in the nation with M.D. and D.O. medical programs.
