Tenure-Track, Assistant/Associate Professor of Business Communications
The Department of Management & Marketing at the University of North Alabama (UNA) invites applications for a tenure-track position in Business Communications at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor, beginning the fall of 2019. Applicants should have earned a Ph.D. degree in Communication Studies or a related field. Candidates who are ABD will be considered with the understanding that the Ph.D. will need to be finished within one year from the date of hire.
The College of Business at UNA is fully accredited by AACSB International, and candidates will be expected to possess, and continue with, sustained professional engagement activities necessary to be classified as and maintain appropriate AACSB faculty qualifications standards. As such, prior business communications experience and/ or scholarly activity is required. Scholarly activity can be in the communication or business disciplines. Faculty member responsibilities include teaching business communications each semester in face-to-face and online formats, advising students, and participating in departmental, college, and university level service.
The focus of the business communications course is on oral and written business and technical communications, with an emphasis on the application of communication principles in organizations. As a teaching focused institution, proficiency in oral and written communication skills (particularly as they relate to active learning strategies) are desirable and prior teaching experience is preferred.
The successful candidate will also demonstrate a strong interest in research, professional development, and outreach activities at the local, national, and international levels. Ability to teach other undergraduate management courses is not required, but would be desirable.
