BACKGROUND
The Knight-Hennessy Scholars program is Stanford's multidisciplinary, graduate-level scholarship focused on preparing the next generation of global leaders to address the complex challenges facing the world. Knight-Hennessy Scholars (KHS) will annually select up to 100 high-achieving students with demonstrated leadership and civic commitment, who will receive full funding to pursue a graduate education at Stanford. In addition to the core Stanford degree program, each scholar will have additional opportunities for leadership training, mentorship, and cohort-based experiential learning.
JOB PURPOSE
The Associate Director will coordinate and execute a customized series of programs, experiences, and events associated with the King Global Leadership Program. Responsibilities include concept creation, content development, speaker coordination and communication, logistics management and operations in collaboration with KHS team, as well as execution of events and experiences through to post-event analysis. Reporting to the Managing Director, he/she will also be responsible for a host of associated projects and key programs, including managing the KHS Fellow in Residence experience, coordinating retreat weekends, developing and overseeing program components for orientations and Immersion Weekend, and experiential excursions. In partnership with the leadership team, the Associate Director may assist in the development of programmatic frameworks and strategies for the King Global Leadership Program — following through to implementation.

The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker, a creative problem-solver, and an enthusiastic team player with a depth of knowledge in program development and management. He/she will exhibit intellectual curiosity, solid judgement, an innovative spirit, technical expertise, and a commitment to managing both complex and simple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced, start-up-like environment.
CORE DUTIES*
  • In partnership with the Managing Director and leadership team, coordinate, organize, execute, and evaluate King Global Leadership programming and events from start to finish. May include large and small events — speaker events, seminars, Immersion Weekend, orientations, weekend retreats, experiential excursions and trips, lunch meetings, workshops, and additional leadership development opportunities.
  • Assist in the development of annual program strategy and communications incorporating partner and scholar feedback, data, and analysis of current programming.
  • Assess, evaluate, and make recommendations for future program development opportunities that meet KHS goals and the needs of this unique scholar community.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of content, course, and leadership opportunities across campus as well as in industry, staying abreast of new experiential and engaging programs and innovative learning opportunities.
  • Deliver a consistently unparalleled experience with value-add programs that exceed expectations (high scholar satisfaction ratings).
  • Manage the experience of the Fellows in Residence program — coordinating communications, offering scheduling assistance, planning events, and organizing travel.
  • Build partnerships, collaborate with peers, and engage groups of program managers in the industry.
  • Implement improvements and changes to the process and programs based on careful analysis.
  • Manage vendor relationships with speakers, specialists, communications professionals, designers, etc.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education & Experience:

Bachelor's degree and five years of relevant experience or a combination of education and relevant experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Demonstrated program and project management skills, including the ability to influence without authority and the ability to manage multiple projects/programs simultaneously.
  • Proven track record for designing and managing programs.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Creative problem-solver with strong critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to work effectively and collaborate with decision-makers across many levels of the organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with faculty members, administrators, and senior leaders.
  • Understanding of graduate student audience and global communities — from experience to needs and challenges.
  • Ability to lead cross-functional teams toward a common goal.
  • Knowledge of strategic analysis, data analysis, and planning.
  • Prior experience in planning and managing events.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*
  • Constantly perform desk-based computer tasks.
  • Frequently stand/walk, sit, use a telephone, grasp lightly/fine manipulation, speaking.
  • Occasionally grasp forcefully, writing by hand.
  • Rarely sort/file paperwork.
