Scope of Job:
Manage the delivery of critical actionable data and advanced analytics designed to support division-wide planning, budgeting, academic and administrative program assessment, and strategic decision-making in support of student success, and institutional improvement.

Description of Duties:
• Works closely with senior administration, faculty, and staff including institutional reporting and analytics teams to provide accurate, timely, and relevant data for internal use and other required internal and external reports.
• Represents the priorities of the Executive Office, convenes schools/units for collaboration on reporting and data needs, and supports the development of a university vision for data support and decision-making.
• Oversees and coordinates the generation and distribution of actionable data reports (both recurring and ad hoc), including specifying, coding, testing, and deploying reports.
• Provides actionable research and assessment results and disseminates results to departments, units, and decision-making groups.
• Assists the division leadership team with deploying strategic research to drive the understanding of actionable data as well as identify opportunities to improve data quality, business intelligence tools, and existing reporting mechanisms.
• Oversees the collection and organization of data as requested for institutional research and reporting purposes.
• Develops benchmarks, databases, dashboards, and other tools to support research, planning, compliance, and decision-making processes.
• Completes projects that require data mining, analysis, and presentation.
• Provides focused data analysis to identify problems or trends, reduce unnecessary cost and/or increase ROI, and drive better decisions.
• Conducts market research and analyses to identify opportunities for program development or enhancement.
• Constructs and provides deliverables for special projects as assigned by the division head.
• Stays abreast of trends in institutional research, survey research, data management and visualization, predictive analytics and business intelligence tools.
• Actively pursues professional development and participates in relevant professional organizations and university committees.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Supervision Received:
General supervision from assigned executive leadership.

Supervision Given:
Direct supervision of assigned staff.

Required Education:
Master’s degree in education, statistics, or related field from an accredited university.

Preferred Education:
N/A

Licenses/Certifications:
Working knowledge of statistical software packages (SPSS, SAS); graphical software, database query languages (SQL); as well as visualization and reporting tools (Tableau, OBIEE).

Required Experience:
• Three (3) years of experience in statistics, statistical analysis, research design, quantitative and/or research methods, or
• Four (4) years of the required experience with a Bachelor’s Degree in education, statistics, or related field from an accredited university.

Preferred Experience:
Experience with data collection methods, sampling, and data analysis and report preparation. desirable.

Equipment:
Use of standard office equipment.

Working Conditions:
Needs to be able to successfully perform all required duties. Office Environment; some travel and weekend work is required.

Other:
Experience in areas of research design and statistical analysis, quantitative and research methods.

A New University with a Long History

The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley was created by the Texas Legislature in 2013 in a historic move that brings together the resources and assets of UT Brownsville and UT Pan American and, for the first time, makes it possible for residents of the Rio Grande Valley to benefit from the Permanent University Fund—a public endowment contributing support to the University of Texas System and the Texas A&M University System.

 

Our new university will also be home to a School of Medicine and will transform Texas and the nation by becoming a leader in student success, teaching, research, and health care. UTRGV will enroll its first class in the fall of 2015, and the School of Medicine will open in 2016.

 

UT Brownsville and UT Pan American

The shared history of The University of Texas Pan American and The University of Texas at Brownsville goes back to 1927, when Edinburg College was founded. In 1973, Pan American opened a second campus in Brownsville, which later became an independent institution of The University of Texas System in 1991. Over the years, the missions and the identities of these great institutions have continually evolved to serve the communities of the Rio Grande Valley.

Now, the evolution and connection between these two institutions is coming full circle as UT Brownsville and UT Pan American are being established as a single, new university and medical school, with a single, new identity—The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley.
