JOB TITLE Temporary Research Accountant LOCATION Worcester DEPARTMENT NAME Controller's Office - JM DIVISION NAME Worcester Polytechnic Institute - WPI JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY Review, analyze, and monitor budgets and spending activity on sponsored awards. Ensure compliance with federal, sponsor, and program regulations, as well as WPI policy and provide service to WPI community for all requests related to sponsored fund activity. JOB DESCRIPTION Responsibilities: • Review and monitor research funds against awarded budgets • Run and analyze exception reports to ensure charges are compliant with federal and sponsor regulations • Calculate and perform monthly drawdown of NSF, DHS, ONR, DOE, DHHS, NIST, and DOEd funds • Generate invoices for subcontract research awards where WPI is the sub-recipient • Reconcile outstanding grant receivables, maintain current invoice list, and follow up on unpaid invoices • Prepare various financial reports to external grant sponsors • Review expenditure requests for available funding, allowability, and compliance with agency guidelines and OMB • Review and approve payroll authorizations • Ensure tuition charges are applied to appropriate awards • Create position control records in Workday for employees paid from research funds • Review and collect backup documents for p-card transactions on research awards • Prepare research fund journal entries and budget entries • Reconcile subaward and independent contractor payments • Process SPA subaward and Professional Services payments in STARS • Ensure accuracy of indirect costs charged on awards • Assist with the annual A-133 audit • Provide Workday support and SPA training information to faculty and departmental staff • Provide backup to Senior Accountants and Director of Sponsored Programs Accounting • Other duties as assigned Requirements: • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or related field required • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook. Experience with Workday preferred. • Excellent oral and written skills and ability to communicate effectively with department heads, faculty, and departmental administrators while maintaining high level of confidentiality. • Knowledge of Federal Regulations for Sponsored Programs preferred (A-21, A-133, A-110, Uniform Guidance) FLSA STATUS United States of America (Non-Exempt) WPI is an Equal Opportunity Employer. WPI’s compact 95-acre campus is set atop one of Worcester’s “seven hills” on the residential outskirts of town. Old English stone buildings are focal points of the architecture, but modern facilities have moved in to claim their own space on the immaculately kept grounds. WPI’s newest building, the Foisie Innovation Studio, is slated to open in Fall 2018 and will house high-tech classrooms, makerspaces, labs, and a residence hall for 140 students.
