Overview

The Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory (PPPL) seeks to fill a post-doctoral research physicist position to study the physics of the formation of the highconfinement region (H-mode pedestal) in the edge of tokamaks. This critical region mediates the tension between core and edge, and plays a defining role in the performance of fusion devices. In addition, the successful candidate will utilize a custom laser system to develop and implementcontrol schemes to optimize the pedestal. The successful applicant will work closely with experimentalists from NSTX-U, DIII-D, and MAST-U to develop adatabase for the pedestal dynamics and associated instabilities in a wide range of plasma scenarios, which will ultimately be utilized in numerical models to gain more insight into pedestal physics.

Responsibilities

We are looking for a highly motivated scientist who will work in a team environment and collaborate closely with theorists and experimentalists. Applicants should have demonstrated strong experimental physics skills. Experience in basic plasma physics, numerical methods, and data analysis are required. Hands-on optics and/or laser experience are desirable. In addition, the successful candidate should have the ability to work within a group/team environment while also being able to work independently. The applicant should have strong communication skills.

Qualifications
