Overview

Support construction, maintenance, and upgrade of facilities.

Overtime and call back work on second or third shift is sometimes required.

Responsibilities

Assist with the construction and repair of facilities.

Perform maintenance, repairs, and new installations utilizing advanced troubleshooting skills and without direct supervision (includes climbing ladders, lifting up to 50 lbs, working in confined spaces, using a full range of motions and working in awkward positions).

1. Follows all lab safety rules and regulations and uses protective equipment to prevent electrical shock.

2. Interprets wiring diagrams, engineer's sketches and specifications to determine design factors.

3. Installs and uninstalls various types of wiring, cable, conduit, switches, fixtures and circuits.

4. Performs cable pulls through conduit and tray.

5. Installs lighting and power circuits, fiber optic cables, power control equipment, motors and generators.

6. Uses hand and power tools and testing equipment.

7. Troubleshoots wiring and circuits; inspects equipment using testing equipment.

8. Works in confined spaces to install/repair/remove wiring and electrical equipment.

9. Supervises small teams of persons performing electrical work.

10. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education: High school diploma or equivalent is required. Associate Degree in a technical field, military experience, or equivalent is beneficial.

Work Experience:

1. Six or more years of experience performing electrical work.

2. Thorough understanding of the National Electric Code.

3. Demonstrated understanding and ability to work from blueprints, engineers sketches or wiring diagrams.

4. Ability to troubleshoot electrical problems.

5. Proficient with hand and shop tools, cable probes, winch, crimper, pulley equipment and shop practices. Ability to use large specialized equipment. Ability to use various types of test equipment.

6. Ability to work with all types of wiring (including fiber optics) and knowledge of special electrician's tools.

7. Familiar with various types of relays, motor controls, push buttons, float controls, interlocks, etc.

8. Understanding of transformers (including theory, types and purpose).

9. Understanding of DC current theory and construction of battery power supplies.

Other: Ability to use computers, read schematics, read technical documents and pass relevant technical training in a variety of subjects - especially Electrical Utilization Training (arc flash protection) and Radiation Safety Training.Experience using Maximo work order system a plus.

Physical Requirements: Work includes climbing ladders, lifting up to 50 lbs, working in confined spaces, working in awkward positions, and requires full mechanical dexterity.
