The Department of Engineering Technology at Texas State University is seeking a tenure track associate professor or professor level faculty member in the area of Concrete Industry Management (CIM). The candidate selected to fill this position would serve as the Program Director, and would be responsible for program leadership and selected administrative functions, in addition to teaching courses and conducting research. This position would be a 12-month, faculty position.

CIM is one of only four such programs in the nation. This growing program currently enjoys approximately 55 majors. This innovative program of study is drawn from the areas of construction management, business management, civil engineering, and concrete production and practice. The department also offers undergraduate degrees in construction science and management, engineering technology, and technology management. At the graduate level, the Master of Science degree with a major in technology management is offered with specializations in construction management, manufacturing management, and industrial management. The department is housed in the College of Science and Engineering, which is home to six academic departments and the Ingram School of Engineering. The college offers an interdisciplinary Ph.D. program in materials science engineering and commercialization.

The selected candidate will serve as Program Director for the CIM program. In this capacity, the director will serve as the key departmental representative to the local and national concrete industry, the CIM National Steering Committee, and CIM programs at other universities. A prominent feature of the director’s responsibilities is travel with other faculty and students to a number of trade shows, professional conferences, and regional and national level competitions throughout the year. The director will also provide leadership with program development, manage a continuous student recruitment campaign, coordinate curriculum initiatives, conduct learning outcomes assessment, guide accreditation efforts, lead faculty in collaborative research efforts, and provide administrative support to the department chair. The director will provide career counseling and academic advising to CIM majors, and will be expected to be an excellent instructor and to teach undergraduate/graduate courses in some of the following areas: introduction to the concrete industry, concrete properties and testing, concrete construction methods and systems, prevention and diagnosis of concrete problems, concrete applications, management of concrete products, and the senior capstone course. In addition to teaching concrete industry management and related construction courses, the individual selected will be expected to support the wider teaching mission of the department. Other responsibilities will include the securing of external funding, conducting and publishing research relevant to concrete industry management and appropriate for an emerging research institution, and engagement in departmental and university service activities.

Required Qualifications

A doctoral degree in civil engineering or construction management. An undergraduate degree in civil engineering from an ABET accredited program, or an undergraduate degree in construction management from an ACCE or ABET accredited program, or an AACSB accredited undergraduate degree in business if accompanied by a doctoral degree in either civil engineering or construction management. Clear English speaking and writing skills. To be considered for the ranks of associate professor or professor, the candidate must meet the requirements for those ranks at Texas State University.

Preferred Qualifications

• A combination of industry and/or academic experience relating to the concrete industry (i.e.: materials, production, operations, design, construction, sales, management).
• A record of classroom and laboratory teaching that emphasizes practical, experiential learning.
• A record of scholarly research and externally funded projects relating to the concrete industry.
• Professional licensure or ability to become licensed.
• Experience leading, promoting, and growing academic or industry programs or teams.
