The Department of Art & Art History at William & Mary invites applications for a one-year, non-tenure-track, Visiting Assistant Professor position that will begin August 10, 2019. We seek an individual with expertise in painting and drawing. The candidate must demonstrate a good working knowledge of composition, color theory, perceptual drawing, and oil painting processes. There may be an option to teach printmaking in addition to painting and drawing. Candidates versed in the area of printmaking are encouraged to apply, however, printmaking experience is not a requirement for this position. Preference will be given to applicants with teaching experience beyond graduate school. The course load is 6 courses (3/3) per academic year (6 contact hrs per course, per week). Each semester the selected applicant will be expected to teach 2 sections of foundational drawing, which includes a 3-week color theory component, and 1 section of painting. In addition, the selected applicant will be expected to attend and participate in 2 program-wide critiques each semester.
Required QualificationsA Master’s degree is required.
Preferred QualificationsPreference will be given to applicants with teaching experience beyond graduate school.
