Job Description
The Department of Communication and Media at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Public Relations. The position will begin in fall of 2019. The department is home to a 21 semester-hours minor in public relations, which includes 5 core courses and serves students from a variety of degree programs. Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi was recently named a Carnegie Research 2 institution.

The successful candidate will participate in the development of a Public Relations Track within the Communication Studies major that serves as a bridge between the Communication Studies and Media Arts areas; and be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses that support the public relations curriculum, including: new media and communication, introduction to public relations, public relations theory, as well as topics related to their research interests. Peer-reviewed scholarly work and ongoing service to the department and college are expected.

Required Qualifications:

• Ph.D. in Public Relations, Mass Communication, Communication Studies, or a related discipline. Exceptional ABD candidates with a firm completion date will be considered. Degree must be conferred at the time of appointment;
• Extensive coursework in public relations and/or strategic communication;
• Experience teaching public relations or strategic communication courses for a post-secondary institution; and
• Demonstrate a record of, or the potential for, scholarly presentations and publication.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Professional experience in public relations (including social media and event coordination) working with civic groups and community organizations.
