Benefits Eligible Yes Eligible for Overtime No Position SummaryThe Assistant Director, Jones School Career Development Office (CDO), is responsible for managing and maintaining relationships with corporate recruiters that engage with the CDO to hire Rice MBA talent. The Assistant Director manages all aspects of on campus recruiting (OCR) from advising individual companies on their best approach to campus, to developing corporate communications. This individual is responsible maintaining relationships with companies on his/her assigned industry, as well as develop new relationships in those industries. The Assistant Director will manage a book of business.
The Assistant Director is also responsible for developing and implementing programs and workshops in assigned areas of the student job or internship search.
Additionally, the Assistant Director may be responsible for advising MBA students on specific companies hiring strategies and practices, enabling them to be best prepared for potential employment. This role is also responsible for corporate recruiting data collection, interpretation, and dissemination. The Assistant Director works closely with the program offices and student leaders.
Education Required Bachelor's Degree Major/Discipline Substitution for Education RequirementExperience may not be substituted for the education requirement.
Education PreferredMaster’s degree in business and/or education.
Experience Required 1 year Type of ExperienceProfessional administrative work experience in higher education or corporate experience with MBA recruitment (experience gained during internships or other student employment roles is acceptable).
Substitution for Experience RequirementMay substitute additional related education, above and beyond what is required, on an equivalent year for year basis in lieu of the experience requirement.
Experience Preferred- Three or more years of business school or other higher education staff experience
- Experience writing business correspondences to multiple audiences such as students, faculty, alumni, and corporate representatives
- Student service experience (advising, program development, student interaction, etc.)
- Experience delivering graduate level student programs
- Oral and written communication skills, diplomacy skills, good interpersonal and organizational skills
- Ability to conduct career assessments
- Ability to develop and give presentations
- Ability to relate effectively with students
- Good computer skills to include Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Knowledge of marketing and advertising programs
Outside the University: Relationship management across the spectrum of MBA recruiters, including Houston-based firms, alumni recruiters, Fortune 500 companies, banking firms, consulting practices and international firms. Individuals include alumni, HR representatives and senior level executives from large corporations, consulting firms and investment banks.
Within the University: Work collaboratively across Rice University and Jones School Departments. Work professionally with all Jones School students, Jones School staff and faculty and other faculty and staff across the Rice Campus. Must be able to Answer numerous student inquiries and assist the various recruiters with whom the CDO interacts. Additional dealings may also include the Dean and Assistant Deans and their staffs. Work with multiple constituents simultaneously in a very positive fashion. Positive customer service is paramount.
Physical DemandsMust be able to sit or stand for long periods of time (up to 8 hours). Able to lift up to 20 lbs. Ability to traverse the building and campus without assistance.
Working ConditionsOffice environment.
Will work in an open cubicle in front office.
- Builds, manages and maintains relationships with employers
- Plans, organizes, schedules and promotes employer recruiting visits and interview schedules
- Produces progress reports on program initiatives
- Provides career counseling to students and alumni
- Represents Rice at professional associations and meetings
- Assists with research on current best practices and progressive practices for general and specialized areas of career counseling
- Assists with maintenance of current or proposed electronic and social media resources
- Provides presentations to student groups and classes on career development issues
- Recruiting liaison and club contact for business related clubs; attends Jones School and Rice University events as necessary
- Provides outreach to faculty and staff to inform of industry, career trends, and relevant career and job search information
- Assists with general office operations
