Position Description
  • The Engineering Technology Department at The University of Toledo, one of six departments within the College of Engineering, invites applications for a tenure-track faculty member in Mechanical Engineering Technology.  The position is expected to begin August 2019. The Mechanical Engineering Technology program provides an outstanding preparation for students to assume varied roles in industry.  Graduates have found success in automotive design and parts fabrication, aerospace applications, industrial tool and process design, and automation design.

  • Qualifications
    The candidate should possess a Ph.D. in engineering or a closely aligned field.  Areas of expertise desired for this faculty position include, but are not limited to, one or more of the following:  materials science, design documentation, digital design and fabrication processes, and mathematical and statistical modeling. 
    Demonstrated success in undergraduate teaching is required.  Additionally, five years of industrial experience, a professional engineering license, and experiences in sustainability or industrial management are preferred.  A record of relevant research activity and engagement with service activities at the community or national level, innovation in teaching pedagogy at the undergraduate course level, and
    engagement with undergraduate research and projects are desired.

    The candidate’s application should convey a robust teaching background with experience in lectures, recitations, and laboratory sessions.  Candidates should be able to demonstrate a strong commitment to engineering technology and the role of a technology-based education within the engineering education community and industry.

    a letter expressing interest in the specific position, a curriculum vitae, and a teaching or academic portfolio that contains narratives describing teaching, research, and service activities, and sufficient documentation to support the narratives.  Finalists for the position will be expected to present a teaching module for evaluation and to convey his or her own expanded vision for the position and the candidate’s role within the Engineering Technology Department.
