North Carolina Cooperative Extension gives our residents easy access to the resources and expertise of NC State University and NC A&T State University. Stanly County covers 402 square miles of rolling hills in the Piedmont region of North Carolina and is home to more than 60,000 people. Albemarle, the largest city and county seat, is 42 miles northeast of Charlotte, 110 miles southwest of Raleigh, and about 70 miles south of Greensboro which places the county in what has become known as the central park region of North Carolina.
Agriculture continues to be a major factor in the local economy with an estimated value of 1.6 billion dollars. Development is fast paced in western Stanly County with the opening of Interstate 485 just 11 miles from the county line and the expansion of NC 24/27 Highway from two lanes to four lanes from Charlotte to Albemarle.

The agent in this position will provide leadership for the development, implementation and evaluation of an effective educational program and informational assistance to meet the needs of the county youth and adult populations in the following areas of responsibility; Agriculture/Livestock, to include but not limited to swine, equine, cattle, goats and sheep. A successful Extension Agent must demonstrate an ability and enthusiasm for serving audiences of diverse cultural and economic backgrounds.Other Work/Responsibilities
The Livestock Agent will be expected to work collaboratively with the 4-H Agent in Stanly County to develop, strengthen and lead 4-H youth programming focused on livestock. Other responsibilities include Integrated Pest Management (IPM), forages, ponds and other areas of agriculture as needed. The successful candidate is expected to be a team player in working with county Extension staff and in networking with other organizations.Minimum Experience/Education
One of the following educational requirements: – A Bachelor’s degree with a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 overall or a 3.0 (based on a 4.0 scale) in an agricultural or related field, – A Bachelor’s degree and the completion of at least one-half of coursework in a Master’s degree curriculum with a cumulative grade point average 3.0 or higher with at least one of the degrees in an agricultural or related field, or – Completion of a Master’s degree with at least one of the degrees in an agricultural or related field. Also required: a personal automobile; computer literacy; strong oral and written communication skills; the ability to plan, implement, market, and evaluate educational programs; willingness to work as a team member and support a total Extension program; and the ability to handle multiple demands and set priorities. Personal Attributes: Successful performance of the duties encompassed in the Extension Agent’s job requires that the individual possess habits of industry, a sense of responsibility, and a genuine appreciation for the worth of the individual. The employee must be adept in both oral and written communication. The Extension Agent is eligible to become a member of the non-tenure track/special faculty at North Carolina State University. The Extension Agent has primary responsibility for planning, executing, and evaluating that phase of Extension programs within assigned areas of program responsibility. The Extension Agent cooperates with colleagues in the North Carolina Cooperative Extension Service and leaders in performing assigned responsibilities. The performance of assigned responsibilities is governed by the philosophy, objectives, policies, and procedures of the North Carolina Cooperative Extension Service.Departmental Required Skills
A Bachelor’s degree in animal science, animal production or a closely related agricultural field is required.Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education
Cooperative Extension and/or relevant experience and a Master’s degree are preferred. Knowledge and experience in communications, presentations, public relations/marketing, leadership, time management, organization, technology, networking, and resource development preferred.Required License or Certification
