The Josef Korbel School of International Studies (JKSIS) at the University of Denver is an interdisciplinary professional school of international studies that prepares students for careers in the public, private and non‐profit sectors. Our program provides students with the knowledge, skills and networks to design policies implement programs and realize outcomes which enhance human capabilities around the world.

Position Summary

The Graduate Director of Student Affairs provides leadership for the Office of Academic Student Affairs at the University of Denver Josef Korbel School Of International Studies. The Director ensures that graduate programs are developed, implemented and continuously evaluated for various student services at Korbel, and that student interests and concerns are communicated to the Associate Dean of Student Affairs and appropriate University personnel in a timely manner. This includes providing a vision and strategic plan for the office and working directly with the staff to ensure that the plan is implemented effectively.


Essential Functions

  • Provide process and policy advising to graduate students and faculty, so they can understand, access, and navigate successfully the policies and resources available at DU. Requires comprehensive knowledge of institutional policy and resources. This is a central link to the 360-degree advising model with the primary focus on facilitating student progress through the INTS degree program.
  • Oversee program management and administration, including developing and refining internal policies and processes as necessary, budget oversight, monitoring compliance, tracking student issues, progress and trends, serving on internal and campus-wide committees as appropriate, and collaborating with other faculty and staff to ensure the delivery of high-quality student services. Requires the ability to assess issues quickly (e.g. student state of mind), exercise judgment and creativity, synthesize information and problem- solve, employ foresight and integrity, and respond effectively to dynamic situations.
  • Cultivate community and inclusive excellence intentionally, in order to engender an environment that is welcoming, respectful, humane, and conducive to learning.
  • Strive to create an ethos of partnership and mutual responsibility among all stakeholders (students, staff, faculty, and administrators).
  • Oversee student-related special events and student engagement, including new student orientation (four times per academic year), commencement receptions (Spring and Summer), and graduate student groups.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • At least 4 years of experience in Student Affairs Administration or similar capacity within an academic institution, or other equivalent experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree
  • At least 6 years of experience in Student Affairs Administration or similar capacity within an academic institution, or other equivalent experience

Work Schedule

  • Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
  • Evenings and weekends as required.
