Duties

The Institutional Research & Application Development (IRAD) group creates custom web applications, integrates vendor products, analyzes data and creates visualizations for the School of Arts & Sciences. Our group is seeking an application developer who is flexible and a creative problem solver. In addition to technical skills, the successful candidate will be able to build successful relationships/partnerships both within the team and within the (non-technical) client groups that we service. Understanding our clients needs is an important part of what we do.

Duties:
Consult with clients to gather functional requirements and prepare proposals, specifications and project timelines. Design, code, test, implement and document database applications and manage projects. Evaluate vendor products and participate in build vs. buy decisions. Develop procedures to solve complex problems and integrate third party tools with University systems. Maintain and support legacy applications. Provide backup support for other team members. Adhere to technical and security standards. Protect the privacy and security of University data and infrastructure. Work both independently and as part of a project team.

Qualifications

Application Developer C:
A Bachelor’s Degree and 2 – 3 years of experience in developing relational database and web applications with demonstrated project management skills. Detailed knowledge of relational database design, PHP, SQL, Javascript, CSS and other web technologies. Knowledge of several of the following technologies desirable: Oracle, MySQL, QlikView, Tableau, TypeScript/Angular, Node, PL/SQL, APEX, and AWS. Must be flexible and adept at multi-tasking and have excellent organizational and problem solving skills. Strong customer service and communication skills a must. Familiarity with University Data Warehouse a plus. Ensures adherence to technical, quality assurance, data integrity, and security standards.

Application Developer Sr:
Same as above and 3 – 5 years of experience; experience working in higher education, preferred. The candidate will demonstrate a proven track record of independently managing projects. Consults with departments on planning, selection and use of database products and services. Plans, organizes, and manages projects. Collaborates with other technical team members and business clients to propose innovative solutions and resolve day-to-day technology issues in order to meet the needs of our clients. Participates in and, at times, leads the analysis, design/architecture and development of new innovative solutions as well as the refinement and optimization of existing systems.
