Position Description
  • Department of History at The University of Toledo invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position specializing in the history of race, imperialism, and empire in colonial/post-colonial sub-Saharan Africa. We are particularly interested in applicants working on projects in African and European History, especially on colonialism, empire or imperialism, and race in conjunction with nation-building. The new faculty member will be expected to teach undergraduate survey and upper-division courses and graduate courses in European History, African History, and Empire Studies and to advise and direct graduate student theses. The successful candidate will be expected to have a strong research agenda and employ innovative teaching methods. In addition, preferred qualifications include experience mentoring underrepresented minority students. 

    The University of Toledo is a comprehensive public research university in Northwest Ohio. The department of history offers undergraduate and graduate degrees (B.A., M.A., Ph.D.). Applicants must submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, evidence of teaching excellence (e.g., teaching evaluations, sample syllabi, statement of teaching philosophy), 4 letters of recommendation, and a writing sample of no more than 50 pages. Qualified applicants will be expected to have a Ph.D. in History completed by August 1, 2018.
