Job Description Summary

The Chair shall be responsible to:
In administrative affairs:
•Lead and guide operations of the Department.
•Oversee and provide control of Department finances.
•Support the mission and goals of the Department, Division, School, and University.
•Represent the Department to the Division, School and University.
•Plan for, recruit, and hire Department faculty in accordance with University rules.
•Participate in administrative governance as appropriate to further functions of the Department, Division, School, and University.
•Develop and participate in activities that represent the Department, Division, School, and University.
In curricular affairs:
•Maintain compliance with current accreditation standards
•Complete yearly reports required by accrediting body
•Transition program from entry-level MS to entry-level OTD
•Guide and participate in on-going review and modification of the overall curriculum plan
•Support and develop experiential learning opportunities
•Support and develop interprofessional learning opportunities
In Department affairs:
•Guide the Department in identifying appropriate faculty and staff personnel needs.
•Guide the Department with regard to curriculum, policies and procedures.
•Guide and foster Department faculty development in teaching, practice, and research.
In student recruitment affairs:
•Continue to develop marketing strategies, policies and procedures for recruitment of graduate students
•Participate in the active recruitment of undergraduate and graduate students interested in a career as an Occupational Therapist or another Health Professional program.
•Participate in other tasks as required by the Associate Dean, Dean, Provost, or President

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum qualifications include:

Experience:
•Experience as an Occupational Therapy clinician
•3 years of experience in a full-time academic appointment with teaching responsibilities at the postbaccalaureate level
•Administrative experience, preferably academic
•A doctorate in a related field of study at the time of appointment
•Licensed, or eligible for licensure, to practice in the state of New York at the time of appointment
•A record of scholarship
•A minimum of 8 years’ experience in Occupational Therapy
Education: Degree from an accredited Occupational Therapy program and a doctoral level degree.
Certification: Must be eligible for New York licensure as an Occupational Therapist.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred qualifications include:
•Demonstrated experience in developing curriculum and clinical programs
•Demonstrated ability to recruit, develop and lead a diverse team of faculty and to supervise staff effectively;
•Demonstrated ability to create interdisciplinary programs with other academic areas
•Outstanding skills related to problem solving and oral and written communications;
•Strong entrepreneurial drive and spirit
•Demonstrated commitment to diversity;
•Strong collaborative interpersonal skills and the ability to build positive and effective relationships across campus with administrators, faculty, staff, students, and external constituents as required; and
•Demonstrated skills in financial management and budgeting.
