POSITION: ELECTRICIAN

Full time position available on or after April 1, 2019 for Facilities Services.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Under the general supervision of the Facilities Maintenance Manager, the Electrician is a journey-level skilled trade worker responsible for the full range of skilled electrical work including the installation, maintenance, modification and repair of electrical apparatuses, equipment and systems. This position works an alternate shift of Tuesday through Saturday. Duties include but are not limited to:
• Inspect, isolate, troubleshoot and repair electrical malfunctions, responds and communicates information to management and vendors as necessary.
• Perform electrical service, analysis, and programming to Campus Fire Alarm and Security Systems.
• Perform Preventative Maintenance activities, service, repair, or replace small to large pieces of electrical equipment.
• Analyze Electrical & Utility system operations by communication with customers, contractors, and/or University staff as required for construction projects, building alterations, and visual inspections. Planning and estimating electrical projects. Maintaining records and retrieving data. Other duties or projects as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• Experience: Combination of progressively responsible training and experience which demonstrates achievement of journey-level skills equivalent to that acquired through completion of a standard electrician's apprenticeship program.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• State of California Electrical Certification and NICET Fire Alarm Systems Certification.
• Verifiable experience installing, maintaining and repairing fire alarm systems. Previous Fire alarm systems experience with NOTIFIER systems.
• High voltage, switch gear and power distribution knowledge. Previous journey-level electrical trades experience in an educational or academic institution.
• Ability to operationalize sustainability concepts (economy, society, environment) into all aspects of performing job duties.
• Ability to recognize and accommodate changing priorities; meet short and long term deadlines/goals; and complete routine tasks despite intermittent interruptions. This includes managing multiple tasks and working proactively to avoid crisis and backlog.
• Ability to initiate establish, and foster communication and teamwork by maintaining a positive, cooperative, productive work atmosphere while establishing effective working relations with a diverse population.

SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
• Thorough knowledge of the electrical theory and the methods, materials, tools and equipment used in the electrical trade for the installation, maintenance and repair of electrical apparatuses, equipment and systems.
• Thorough knowledge of the applicable state and federal codes and regulations pertaining to the electrical trade, including the National Electric Code and Electrical Safety Orders of the Division of Industrial Safety of the State of California.
• Ability to assemble, install, maintain and repair electrical apparatuses; operate all applicable tools and equipment necessary to perform skilled electrical work.
• Ability to read, interpret and work from blueprints, plans, drawings and specifications. Ability to make rough sketches; estimate the cost, time and materials of electrical work.
• Ability to maintain records and retrieve data related to work performed using manual and computerized record-keeping systems; prepare standard reports.
• Ability to provide instruction to unskilled and semi-skilled assistants. Ability to analyze and respond appropriately to emergency situations.
• Ability to read and write at a level appropriate to the position. Ability to perform arithmetic calculations as required by the position.
• Must possess a California Driver's License valid for the operation of any vehicle or equipment this position is required to maintain and operate.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
• Typical office, industrial, construction and mechanical environments, which include interior and exterior settings, above ceilings, in confined spaces and in mechanical rooms in all types of weather.
• Position may be required to frequently sit, move, and stand for the typical journeyman level of skilled construction or maintenance trades functions. Requirements may include the need to sit or work at a work bench or computer terminal for long periods of time on various projects. Incumbent must have the ability and strength to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, finger and feel the various tools, equipment, and devices required in the field of an Electrician.

SALARY RANGE: $5,534 - $7,146 per month plus excellent paid benefits. (Anticipated salary will be $5,534 - $6,087 per month, depending on the qualifications of the successful finalist.) The California State University offers a premium benefit package that includes, but is not limited to, outstanding vacation, health, dental, and vision plans; a fee waiver education program; membership in the California Public Employees Retirement System (PERS); and 14 paid holidays a year.
