Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) at Oregon State University invites applications for a full-time, 12-month Staff Counselor.

CAPS is committed to providing a range of services to help students succeed. These services are designed to help students understand themselves better, create and maintain satisfying relationships, improve their academic performance, and make healthy and satisfying career and life choices. We do this by providing consultation, single session interventions, psychoeducation, web-based support, crisis support, group counseling, and brief individual and relationship counseling when indicated. Additionally, if more long-term care is needed we will make referrals to health care providers in the community.

The Staff Counselor is a 12-month full-time position that reports to the Director of Counseling & Psychological Services. The primary purpose of this position is to enhance student success by providing direct clinical and counseling services, including the assessment and treatment of students. In addition, this position provides consultation to OSU community members, preventative and educational outreach initiatives, and training of pre-doctoral interns and other graduate trainees.

The position relates to the university mission by directly intervening with students to help them manage problems or skill deficits that may otherwise lead them to withdraw from school or cause disruptions in other areas of the university. This position works collaboratively and cooperatively with community and university agencies that serve students.

Required Qualifications

• Masters of Social Work, Masters of Counseling, Masters of Marriage and Family Therapy, Doctorate in Psychology, or similar degree from an accredited program.
• Eligible for licensure in the state of Oregon in respective discipline within 18 months of employment.
• A demonstrable commitment and ability to promote and enhance diversity, and ongoing development of multicultural competence in working with a diverse student population.
• Ability to provide effective assessment, individual therapy, group therapy, and crisis support services.
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and other various personnel/agencies, and as a member of a multi-disciplinary team, for the effective delivery of services to students.
• Advanced knowledge of modern counseling theory, psychological practices and methods.
• Ability to plan, implement, evaluate, and report activities in a timely manner.
• Ability to communicate effectively in writing and to prepare written documentation.
• Ability to communicate effectively orally, both in person and by telephone.
• Commitment to a developmental philosophy and a brief therapy approach.
• This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a Criminal History Check and be determined to be position qualified as per OSU Standard 576-055-0000 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in Youth Programs may have additional Criminal History Checks every 24 months.

Preferred Qualifications

• Two years of post-graduate professional counseling experience.
• Experience working in a university counseling service.
• Experience developing and delivering programs and services within an educational setting.
• Currently licensed.
• Experience in one or more of the following areas:
• Conducting therapy in Spanish and providing outreach and engagement to Latinx students
• Conducting therapy and providing outreach and engagement to African-American/Black students
• Conducting therapy in Mandarin Chinese and providing outreach and engagement to Mandarin Chinese-speaking students
• Conducting therapy in Arabic and providing outreach and engagement to Arabic-speaking students
• Coordinating a peer support network
• Providing primary clinical supervision to Psychology doctoral interns

Salary: $41,664 - $70,704. Starting salary within the salary range will be commensurate with skills, education, and experience.
