DescriptionGeorgia State University College of Law Publications Specialist III   Georgia State University College of Law currently seeks applications for the position of Publications Specialist III in its Communications Office.

  This is a full-time public relations writer position responsible for developing and disseminating press releases, feature stories, news articles, announcements, web content and marketing collateral. Additionally, this position will provide editing support for the clearance of developed materials as needed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES REPORTING & STORY DEVELOPMENT (50%)

  • Can write, edit and publish 5 stories a week.
  • Receive assignments, evaluate leads and tips to develop story ideas.
  • Research and fact check story background information.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with expert faculty.
  • Book and conduct interviews with story subjects (faculty, students, alumni, etc).
MEDIA RELATIONS (30%)
  • Serves as liaison between the College of Law community and the news media.
  • Handles media inquiries and pitches story ideas to local, regional and national media.
  • Assists the faculty and staff in preparing for contact with the media.
GENERAL MARKETING SUPPORT (20%)
  • Manage social media platforms (Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter and Instagram).
  • Ensures the editorial and graphic identity of marketing materials meets guidelines.
  • Assists in copy reading, editing and proofing publications for quality control.

QualificationsBachelor's degree in English, Journalism or a related field and two years of related experience; or high school diploma or GED and six years of related experience; or a combination of education and related experience.

The Georgia State Panthers are members of the Colonial Athletic Association and compete in 16 NCAA Division I intercollegiate men’s and women’s sports, including basketball, baseball, softball, golf, tennis, track and volleyball. The university announced in April 2008 that is will begin Division I-AA football in 2010.

The university’s innovative Touch the Earth program brings outdoor recreation ranging from backpacking, rock climbing, sailing, kayaking, rafting and water-skiing to out-of-state snow-skiing and snorkeling trips. And WRAS, Georgia State’s popular 100,000-watt radio voice, is the most powerful student-run radio station in the United States.
