Department The Florida Center for Research in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (FCR-STEM) at Florida State University seeks a highly motivated instructional designer to create self-paced, online tutorials for students in grades K-12 using e-learning authoring software in a fast-paced development environment. Ideal candidates are experienced e-learning developers who understand instructional systems, learning theories, instructional design, graphic/visual design, computer-based training, have an interest in K-12 education, and effectively collaborate with subject matter experts (SMEs), narrators, and other members of the instructional design team.Responsibilities Primary duties include, but are not limited to the following:
Create and publish at least 55 interactive modules each year
Evaluate digital storyboards from subject matter experts (SMEs) according to project requirements
Provide consultation, feedback, and recommendations to SMEs via email, phone, or face-to-face
View, check-out, track, and update tasks online
Transfer content from PPT storyboards into e-learning authoring software
Modify original slide designs and interactions from SMEs to improve instructional design, usability, user motivation, and/or visual design characteristics
Use e-learning authoring software to create interactive content and freeform quiz slides, including text, images, video, audio, animations, states, and layers
Follow all project specifications for accessibility, e-learning authoring software, media use, instructional design, and visual design
Edit images, audio, and video as needed
Create, modify, comment, and track changes in documents using office applications
Using e-learning authoring software: Publish or export to a text document and format scripts for narrators
Using e-learning authoring software: Insert audio files from narrators and sync animations
Conduct quality control (QC) evaluations of all products before review and publication
Using e-learning authoring software: Publish to the online review portal and for web and upload finished projects to CPALMS
Collaborate with fellow team members, including narrators, to make all requested revisions and complete projects & tasks
Share ideas for improving processes or products
Evaluate and report on other software, media, projects, etc. as needed
Contribute to the production of job aids, webinars, and other performance support materials as needed.
Other duties as assignedQualifications Masters Degree required, preferably in Instructional Design, but other programs will be considered.
1+ years of experience building online modules.
1+ years of experience in developing k-12 instructional/educational resources.
Candidates must have the following skills and experience:
An online portfolio included in the resume with projects that display evidence of the qualifications listed below.
Proficiency with e-Learning authoring software (e.g. Articulate Storyline, Captivate, Lectora, etc.). Experience with Articulate Storyline 360 greatly preferred
Design and development of interactive e-learning modules
Strong instructional design skills
Strong visual/graphic design skills
Ability to collaborate effectively on project teams, especially with subject matter experts and supervisors
Ability to juggle multiple development tasks at the same time
Excellent English written and verbal communication skills
Excellent organizational and management skills
Proficiency with office applications including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, or their equivalent
Proficiency with graphics applications including Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, or their equivalent
Proficiency with audio editing software (e.g. Audacity)
Proficiency with video/image capture software (e.g. Camtasia, Snagit)
Proficiency communicating via web-based systems and basic software applications
Ability to seamlessly adapt to rapidly changing project prioritiesPreferred PhD in Instructional design preferred, but other programs will be considered
