Executive Director, Assistant Professor - Trinity Global Leadership Initiative
Trinity Washington University, a comprehensive university in the nation’s capital, seeks a founding executive director for the new Trinity Global Leadership Initiative, a signature program funded through a grant from the Mellon Foundation. The Trinity Global Leadership Initiative will infuse global issues throughout Trinity’s curricula as well as foster development of History, Political Science and International Affairs into a Global Affairs cluster. The grant also provides funding to support the revitalization of the language curriculum. Trinity enrolls 2,000 students across five academic units including the College of Arts and Sciences, which is the historic undergraduate women’s college; and four coed professional schools in Nursing and Health Professions; Education; Professional Studies; and Business and Graduate Studies.
The Trinity Global Leadership Initiative is a signature project under the aegis of the president in close collaboration with the provost, dean and faculty of the College of Arts and Sciences. The executive director will oversee the implementation of the Mellon Grant activities and teach courses in the Global Affairs program. Specific grant-related duties include: overall academic direction of the project and development of the long-term Global Leadership program at Trinity; supervision of faculty grant awards to foster development of global issues themes; supervision of student grant awards for internships and research projects in the field in Washington; creation of faculty development opportunities; development of annual global leadership symposia; identification of additional sources of funding including for student study abroad; and related activities of the grant.
The successful candidate will be an experienced academic with a strong background in global affairs, with an earned doctorate preferably in History, Political Science, International Affairs or related disciplines. The position is a 12-month full-time tenure-track faculty member with significant administrative duties, hence, the executive director must be able to work a full five-day week on campus. The position may be at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor depending upon the candidate’s background. Trinity does not hire in with tenure but may shorten the probationary period if the successful candidate is already tenured.
Candidates must be able to demonstrate excellence in teaching and scholarship in the relevant disciplines, deep knowledge of issues in global affairs and trends in both the academic and professional fields, a working knowledge of the agencies and interest groups in Washington that would form a strong set of partnerships for the program, along with strong administrative talents, outstanding writing and presentation skills.
