The Mursion@ECU program is housed within the Office of Assessment, Data Management, and Digital Learning within ECU’s College of Education. The College also houses six instructional departments, the Office of Educator Preparation, and the Office of Research.

Job Duties

The Office of Assessment, Data Management, and Digital Learning in the College of Education is looking to fill a full-time, twelve-month, non-teaching faculty position for Instructional Technology Consultant (also referred to as “Digital Puppeteer”).

The Digital Puppeteer will perform a variety of roles in a new immersive interactive learning experience while using the Mursion software. The Puppeteer will be responsible for learning a number of scenarios in education, counseling, hospitality, business and medicine among others and will act as all of the avatars used during a simulation with a live person making connections and working through a specific scene and learning objectives. The Puppeteer will also work to help develop new scenarios for use in the simulator.

Hours will vary to accommodate the needs of our Mursion user but should all fall within the time frame of Monday-Friday 8-8 and Saturday 8-12.

The Digital Puppeteers primary duties will include:
•Matching the voices of the current avatars and adapting to new ones.
•Speaking in front of an audience for at least 5-15 minutes at a time
•Improvisation with the audience to include comedic timing
•Performing various scenarios throughout a 3-8 hour shift
•Utilizing specific 4-D equipment to animate puppets
•Manipulating a digital puppet through repetitive use of the hands, wrists, and forearms
•Communicating a pleasant, friendly, and outgoing personality with users, potential users, co-workers.

Additional Responsibilities will include:
•Work to help develop the Mursion@ECU scenario library and ancillary materials
•Work with customers to develop unique scenarios to meet their specifications
•Maintain and grow Mursion@ECU scenario library
•Work with Mursion@ECU team to refine and improve new and existing scenarios
•Implement feedback from clients and teammates quickly and effectively to ensure client satisfaction.
•Research new clients and cultivate scenarios to fit them.
•Assist in the development and coordination of marketing materials
•Provide demonstrations of Mursion by teaching lessons to Mursion students during client presentations
•Assist in project management of collaborative efforts
•Participate in project strategy of collaborative efforts
•Assist with onsite visits/meetings when appropriate
•Other responsibilities as assigned

Minimum Education/Experience

High school diploma and one year of improv experience.

Due to the nature of this position, only applicants who have successfully completed the Mursion training are eligible to work with the interactive software.

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education

Preference may be given to applicants with three years of puppeteer experience and/or one or more of the following: an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree; experience with, or a background in, education; experience with, or interest in, gaming technology, as well as those in or willing to relocate to Greenville, NC.
