Information Technology Shared Services (ITSS) is a component of The University of North Texas System. The mission of ITSS is simple: to be the best at delivering customer-aligned IT solutions and services. Our services are provided to all member institutions using an IT shared services governance model.

IT Shared Services provides the primary technology used by all campuses to support their operations. These include: shared resources of data centers, computing hardware, software applications, network and voice communications, collaboration and productivity capabilities, central web services, risk management, and security and compliance services. As a department, we strive to provide the most professional personnel possible to serve our campus constituents.

Job Description
The IT Shared Services Department at the University of North Texas is seeking to hire a Senior Network Architect to join our team. This position performs complex (senior-level) work. Work involves design and coordinating activities associated with all networks; coordinating network architectural design and installation, training, monitoring, and analysis of existing hardware and software; and evaluating potential network enhancements. May supervise the work of others. Works with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

Responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:

* Acts as a visionary and strategist for Network architecture as the organization's top design resource. Advises the Enterprise Architect and Chief Technology Officer on matters of Network strategy.
* Oversees the actions of other Lead Network Engineers and ensures the alignment of the organization's mission, strategy, and processes to the Network Strategy.
* Responsible for the most important and complex Network Designs and architectures.
* Work with various platforms and OS types (Microsoft, Linux, Apple etc.) to support network connectivity over common network technologies such LAN, WAN, SDN, VPN, Internet, intranets, extranets, telephony, VoIP, and other networks.
* Design and support of network hardware such as servers, switches, routers, firewalls, load balancers, controllers and analyzers.
* Design, configuration, operation and ongoing maintenance of network hardware and support of network protocols STP, PVST, RTSP, MST, VLANs, Aggregated Ethernet, 802.1q tagging, IGMP, DHCP snooping OSPF, BGP, MPLS and working knowledge of multicast and QoS.
* Working knowledge of IP addressing, TCP/IP and IPv4 (CIDR, VLSM, DNS, DHCP) and IPv6 addressing and associated network protocols (TCP, UDP, ICMP) and testing tools such as Ping, Trace route, Netstat, Host, Dig, Nslookup and experience with UNIX operating systems for diagnostic tools.
* Troubleshooting techniques competency and operation of common network monitoring resources such as Nagios, Cacti/MRTG and diagnostic tools such as sniffers and wire shark.
* Ability to integrate various technologies such as Active Directory, LDAP and Radius for access control and detailed understanding of various methods of encryption and security implications.

Minimum Qualifications
The successful candidate will possess a Bachelor's degree in related field and four years data communications and/or networking experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:

* Ability to plan and conceptualize and make sound Design decisions
* Must exercise considerable independent and professional judgment in matters of high significance
* Strong problem-solving skills
* Strong critical thinking skills
* Strong planning and project management skills
* Ability to communicate effectively with diverse groups verbally and in writing
