Position Summary

This position is for a health care assistant in the Neurology and Ophthalmology clinics. Primary job duties include, but are not limited to: greeting patients and visitors; answering phone and taking messages; preparing exam rooms; scheduling appointments and registering patients; preparing charts; verifying insurance and obtaining authorizations; working on referrals; scheduling and coordinating tests; retrieving and distributing results to physicians; completing and verifying forms; maintaining general filing system; preparing supplies and cleaning examination rooms; ordering supplies; recording patient history and taking chief complaint; obtaining vital signs; performing and assisting with procedures, examination and treatments; ability to cross cover positions within scope of practice in the clinic.

Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills

Knowledge normally acquired through a high school education; six months to one year of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in a medical office setting or in a clinical setting performing routine health assessment tests and obtaining vital signs; experience with electronic health record systems and patient scheduling systems; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Must be a certified medical assistant with current certification, which must be maintained for the duration of employment.

Desired Qualifications

Experience working in a clinical-neurology care setting with multiple providers including resident physicians; experience with computer scheduling, patient registration; ability to multi-task and prioritize

Work hours are typically 8 am - 5 pm, but can vary as necessary to accommodate clinic hours.

Summary of Health Risks

Exposure to human blood, serum, tissue and other body fluids; and materials covered under Universal Precautions; TB risk or work within three feet of patients in a health care setting; wear a respirator.
