Job Summary Requisition Number: 29663 Job Title: SCENE TECHNICIAN Working Title: Lighting and Video Technician Salary: 19.37-23.01 Job Type: Career Department Name: 0466-THEATER Department Website URL: Job Summary Statement: Under the supervision of the Lighting and Video Supervisor, the Lighting and Video Technician works in association with Lighting and Video Supervisor, stage supervisors, and lighting and video design faculty of the Department of Theater in the training of lighting and video design students and the planning, coordination, and supervision of theatrical productions for the Department of Theater.

In association and coordination with the Lighting and Video Supervisor, overall responsibilities include:
?Planning, installation, operation, maintenance, and strike of assigned Department of Theater and rental productions
?Maintenance and storage of the department's lighting inventory
?Supervision of employees, graduate teaching assistants, work study students, and lighting and video lab
?Review lighting plots and video specifications from graduate and undergraduate designers, hold designers to professional level standards, give feedback and critique to improve designers' paperwork and communication skills Percentage of Time: 100 Shift Start: 9:00 am Shift End: 6:00 pm function checkForSelectedStatus(){ return true;} Qualifications for Position 19 Records Qualifications Required/Preferred Knowledge of the use and applications of general lighting and video equipment including control consoles, media servers, dimmers, power distribution equipment, projectors, lighting fixtures and intelligent lighting equipment. Required Ability to learn the use and applications of new lighting and video equipment. Required Ability to effectively communicate the use and applications of lighting equipment to people with various amounts of related previous knowledge. Required Ability to effectively communicate with production staff, faculty, staff, students and vendors. Required Knowledge of the operation of theatrical productions and inter-relationships between the various disciplines. Required Ability to work as part of a cooperative production team and perform all functions in accordance with the time constraints and multiple demands created by the production schedule. Required Ability and willingness to work flexible hours as required by the production schedule. Required Knowledge of the principles of lighting and electricity as applied to theatrical lighting systems. Required Knowledge of principles of video design and system networking as applied to theatrical use of video projection systems. Required Skill in reading, understanding and using light plots, instrument schedules, hook-ups and manufacturers maintenance manuals. Required Skill in the use of electronic test equipment including voltmeters and continuity testers. Required Skill in troubleshooting and isolating electronic and system problems often under severe time constraints. Required Knowledge and skill in the use of ETC and other computer control consoles. Required Ability to use personal computer to perform word processing, record keeping functions. Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel. Skill in using AutoCAD and/or VectorWorks and Lightwright software to read, generate and modify light plots, instrument schedules and related paperwork. Required Ability to work safely at considerable heights such as stage grids and platforms including the use of ladders, lifts and scaffolds. Required Working knowledge of safety precautions necessary when working with ladders, stages, scaffolds, lifts and appropriate forms of fall protection. Required Demonstrate pride, professionalism and commitment to excellence. Required Ability to effectively perform duties and tasks in a no smoking environment. Required Ability to lift 60 lbs.
